I hate to have to ask this, but can anyone point me to a post with pictures that shows how to disconnect the cable at the speedometer? I wasn't able to find one. This is a 79 Super.
The weather's starting to get cooler around here, and the buzz/wave problem has appeared.
I'm hoping a few drops of oil on the cable will take care of it...
Thanks!!! |

| I googled but didn't find much. If it's like the standard model, there's a nut that is threaded onto the speedometer, but the nut has ribs and is circular, so you can grab it with your fingers. Simply loosen the nut all the way and pull the cable out. You should only need your fingers. If its different I don't know what to tell you. |

its pretty simple, just pop the spedo out, it should come out pretty easily, then just untwist the part that holds the spedo cable on, i found this it might be more helpful than i was

Are there some screws in the back that hold the speedo in place? I know I should just do a search, but since I've already started this thread...
I appreciate the link, veeweekid. I'm hoping to find details on what's at the speedo, like how to get it out. Once it's loose from the dash, I should be off and running.
I've never messed with the speedo before.
This Super belongs to my aunt, and I don't want to damage anything. I've been slowly fixing it up so she can sell it, and it's almost finished. I'd sure hate to damage something at this point. |

| no screws, it should pop out pretty easy, its just kinda pressed into the dash, use a screwdriver and be careful and just pry it out, use a criss crossing pattern so not to damage anything, just dont pull the spedo out too far, i kno my last spedo came out just far enough to get to stuff back there |

Thank you very much!
I'm a little uneasy about prying on it with a screwdriver, but if that's the way to do it, I will. |

| 1968 Sedan... Sorry, it might be different. I just panicked. You can open the hood and see behind the speedo, right? Maybe use a small telescoping mirror if you can't..... |

| On my '73 super I just popped off that switch plate below and to the left of the speedo (very clever and well fitting screw covers on that bugger, btw  ) and that allowed me to access the back of the speedo. |

There's just a metal panel under the hood. It's not easy like the early ones. :( LeviMan2001 wrote: On my '73 super I just popped off that switch plate below and to the left of the speedo (very clever and well fitting screw covers on that bugger, btw  ) and that allowed me to access the back of the speedo. I'm going to hafta take a close look at it when I get home from work tonight. |
