| Is anyone using the Type-1 TO Type-2 Coupler made by EMPI to connect a 3rib tranny to a stock shift rod. I believe the connector allows you keep the shift rod in the tunnel without using a 10deg kit. Im just wondering if it works. |

| i have that set up. it works just fine. at first i couldn't get it to hookup. angle seemed wrong and was just a hair to short. i pulled the shift tube and found it was quite bent. so i stuck it in a press and simply bent it back as straight as i could. hooked it up and shifts fine. only used it for a weekend at pismo so far. and you know if anything is gonna break it'll do it out in the dunes. but i do plan on putting the shifter on top of the tunnel when i can afford. |

I think the stock shift rod has a bend in it
and if it works fine why are you considering putting it on top of the tunnel? |

| I think all the shift rods have a bend in them. Good to know it works. I have not been able to make up my mind on how im going to mount my new 002 tranny. finally decided on not using the 10 deg kit. |

| not trying to steal your thread, but what other ways are there to mount the 002 trans? if you use a 10 degree kit, the coulper has to be out of the tunnel? |

| well the two main ways are to use the 10 deg kit which mounts the trans on an angle to put the nose cone in the tunnel. if u use the bus to bug mount the shift rod sits on top of the tunnel. unless u use the empi adaptor. The 10 deg kit seems like a rip off to me pacific customs wants $165 for it. Bus to bug is like $35.00 |

I have the bug to bus in my rail with the aluminum adapter. It was short too so I took the welds off the end of the tube and was able to slide the sleave out 1/2" I needed and welded it back up.
I was skeptical about the strength and accuracy of the adapter but it works fine and I really can't tell the differene from the bug trans set up.
I did install a new shift ball in the linkage in the nose cone and boxed the carrier to make it stiffer. I also because the main bearing had pounded into the nose cone about .040 to .060" I had the nose cone milled down and installed a beef plate between the nose cone and housing. |
