My customer is interested in making his stock drum brakes in his 1968 bus power boosted. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=384674&highlight=drum+brakes We've read a recent thread on this and have a pretty good idea what we'll need to buy and fabricate in order to make it work but here's my question. The engine is a 2007cc type 1 with dual dellorto carbs. How should I tap into the intakes in order to get a vacuum source? Do I tap into just one throat, one on each side, or all four? I'm guessing that tapping into just number three might work. After all, once the engine is running I don't think it would affect anything as long as there were no leaks.

My Dual 36 Dells were tapped at both manifolds just below the tops. Kind of a hack job as they were sealed with JB Weld. I'm not sure if both are required, as one of the lines on mine was pinched with an adjustable clamp (to reduce vaccuum I suppose?) Anyway, I'm going to have bungs welded to the manifolds to make the fittings fit better and not look so ugly.

They worked well for stock late bay discs I have up front.

I'd suggest a balance tube with a nipple for the brake booster.

Hmmm, I can't remember. Probably from Thesamba classifieds.

I have the same carbs you have. I tapped into just the number three for my 71 with the disk brakes and vac booster. Works just fine.

Here is a pic of some CB solex carbs designed for type I or IV engines...

you can see the idea, a crossover may be needed...I didn't use my PB after I installed these, and never removed the crossover.

I'm thinking it's the easiest way to go

The box had some paperwork. Here's a link: http://mainelycustombydesign.com/

Oil Dip Stick with Temperature Gauge: Ever wonder that the oil temperature in your motor really is? Well now you can tell.

We have developed three NEW DIPSTICKS for your 356 or 912 Porsche, Type 1 Volkswagen and 914 / 912E Porsche. Our dipsticks have a 1" Oil Temperature Gauge that is manufactured with a glass lens that is hermetically sealed so that the fuel and oil around your engine compartment will not affect it. This gauge is +/- 1% over the full span of 50 to 300 degrees. The Bimetal element is dampened with silicone for minimum pointer vibration and maximum heat transfer. We have provided oil level marks on the stainless steel shaft to let you keep track of your proper oil lever.

This is a direct replacement for your original oil dipstick. There are no modifications required for use

Just make sure you use the size fitting on the manifold that is large enough to pull the proper vac. Also, you may install the fitting at an angle (pointed slightly down inside the manifold) to help with the vac.
