Noticed today that the infamous beetle sound was only coming out of one tailpipe so the investigation began.
When pulling the pass side tailpipe out I noticed that the round ring on the engine side had broken loose and turned sideways. Probably not good.
Both have been replaced and everything sounds normal.
Does anyone know how far in or out the tailpipes (peashooters) should be when installing them? |

Article I have come across on installing exhaust tips said the following:
1968 & later cars: The tail pipes should not enter the muffler more than 3.4 inches. Measure total length of tail pipe & mark it 3 1/4" from muffler entry end - slide pipe into muffler up to mark & clamp in place. Use new clamps & sealing washers...
