Anybody know where to buy new hoses that go between the heat exchangers and the heat control box.
I think the paper wrapped hose will fit but I wonder about it getting wet.
The scrap that was left is all aluminum. |

| Hose between the HE's and control valves??, never seen that before, it's always a steel tube. There is hose between the booster fan and HE's and between the valves and the dump tubes on 78-79's, it's paper wrapped aluminum and lasts for years. |

My mistake. the hose I mean is between the control valve and the metal tubes that are next to the heat exchangers. My 77 does not have these extra metal tubes. Must be a later model addition. But I will try the paper wrapped hoses and see how they hold up.
Thanks. |

Me and pancakebunny are both confused.
Your 77 doesn't have dump tubes but you have a scrap of hose remaining? Do you have late control valves with the hose fittings on them instead of the hats? |

Take a look at this and figure out what it is you're missing. The only place for paper/aluminum ducting is above the engine. Everything below the engine is solid except for the plastic accordian tubes that run forward from the heat control valves. |

| My 77does not have "dump tubes". It is my 79 with" dump tubes" that I need new hoses to connect these "dump tubes" to the control box. :? |

Well now why didn't you mention that before??
The hose for the dump tubes is different than the stuff most VW supply outfits carry (can't recall the exact size but it's bigger than 50mm), you'll have to head down to the FLAPS and match it up with the universal carb preheat hoses. |

I just got through this on my '79. The exact size is 52 mm which of course is ever so slightly larger than the only available size that's close which is 2" (50.8 mm). I used the medium tail pipe expander from Harbor Freight ($10 or less) to slightly enlarge the diameter and get them to slip on. Worked great.

Thanks for the info.
My first new car was a 72 Bug and had a new 78 camper. Several VW over the years but just got back to them about 6 months ago.
I am having a ball working on my Buses. The shows I have been to were great and have met some neat folks. The Samba Is an exceptional resource. Thanks to all. |

You're replying to a post from 2009, I'd like to think they've solved the problem by now. |
