I was working on making the patches for the tunnel on my '73 today, and I was wondering if anyone can help me out...
I got curious as to how the frame head and front firewall support get welded in. I cut a section out of the existing framehead bottom plate to get a closer look. Something just doesn't look right.
This pic is taken from under the car. the center tunnel is to the right, the front firewall support is in the middle, and the frame head is to the left. hopefully that gives a bit of perspective.
It looks like there is something missing between where the frame head ends and the front support begins. I'm not sure if the tunnel is supposed to run all the way up to the frame head, and the support just kind of piggy backs the tunnel, or if the tunnel welds to the support, then the frame head welds to the support? I know its not supposed to look like it does right now. Can anyone clear this up for me?
Thanks! |

Here's a photo from my pan repair work.
Mine's a '69 pan and it looks as though the tunnel continues uninterrupted to the frame head. Not sure why yours has a gap where the front firewall support straddles the pan. |

Ah, yeah... that's what I was afraid of... I think the reason mine is missing some of that is the PO was a butcher, and there is a lot of very poor rot repair up front.
Thanks for the photo. it clears up a lot! |
