What's everyones opinion of dropping a V8 into a VW bug? Is the wheelbase too short or will the bug go straight?

Straight... to the abortion thread.

The BEST way i've seen it done is to use a cut down Nova chassis and drop a Beetle body on it.

Would you by chance be referring to the Beetle in this video?

Is there not a "smiley" for puking?

Shows how "cool" they are going down the road... what about how cool they look trying to get into the car and get around the engine and into the back seat to drive it

No... i've seen a few in my 40 years of working on VWs.

yeah it did look kinda uncomfortable, but that was also a big block. I've seen the small blocks squeeze in there without having to sit in the back.

bad idea. just build a horizontally opposed four cylinder. come on your up to the challenge! you wont regret it!

Glenn Fri Nov 20, 2009 7:50 pm

This one has it in the rear.

How's this?

That one is pretty nice. from the outside you'd never know it wasn't a normal bug... unless you look in the backseat.
I liked that one a lot.
that other thing above is a bit fugly.

the way i think of it if you want a v8 powered bug build a street rod. it takes the wow factor away. now when you build a acvw to stomp all over a v8, thats where there wow factor comes in. but to each his own thats just my opinion

I really enjoy saying "no, it's got a VW engine in it".

learningbymistake Fri Nov 20, 2009 8:52 pm

... I can push mine a lot faster than someone could push a muscle car :D

But it doesn't run haha

Not worth the time or money, unless its a Baja. Check out the ones in the off road forum.

If you post it on the samba you will get hate. If you post it here: http://www.v8bugs.com/ you wont. IMO DON'T DO IT. air cooled is way cooler. Come on dropping a 350 in it is so played out, put something new in it, build a twin turbo packard straight 8 or something.

If you do it, we'll all make fun of you and call you a water pumper.

I just have to say that this was the funniest line I've read in a very long time.

As for the V8...waste of time and money. Now, an engine that runs on WATER in a VW....that would be an interesting investment (especially if you could make it powerful enough to crush a V8 ).

HHO fuel cells.

Yeah...that was what I was getting at. I watched an old news report the other day about a fellow who had developed some very interesting HHO powered items, starting with a welding torch, and eventually ending up with an engine for his car (I think it was a Subaru...what a waste)

HHO is a sham, seriously. Besides. It's H2 and O2, not 'h h o' :P
