I just installed a brand new (not rebuilt) steering gear on my '70 beetle. Ordered it from Mid America. The new one has more slack in it than the old one did. I've adjusted the worm gear per the instructions, but still got the slack. The slack is in the box, not the tie rods (everything is new).
Bad box? Any ideas appreciated.

| Check the steering shaft to steering box for looseness. I had the same problem with a new box and it turned out to be a slightly loose clamp bolt. |
