| Well i hit a bit of a speed bump on my FI troubleshooting when on the way home from school today my fasty started chugging and jerking real bad and lost all power then backfired and died. I had to push it onto the shoulder and then got a ride home from a friend. I thought i might of just got too low on gas (the fuel gauge read low but not too low) so i put a couple of gallons in ands she fired right up but as soon as i got on the road it started doing the same thing and died again, and now it wont start at all. We where able to tow it home. Now at home im trying to get it running. I changed the fuel filter thinking it might be clogged but that didnt help. The fuel pump is coming on and it is getting spark at the points but i dont think there is spark at the plugs, i had a friend turn it over while i checked to see if a spark plug would arc or spark (while the plug was out but still connected to the wire) or show some sort of life but nothing. Could maybe the coil be the culprit or am i thinking down the wrong track. |

Ths symptoms are very generic to a hand full of problems. Does your car still have the strainer/sock filter in the fuel tank? If so...this symptom is common to that.
Dropping fuel pressure after start-up due to worn fuel pump overheating is common. It can be seen on the fuel pressuer gauge.
Yes....it could be a coil...but starting correctly and then running poorly would only be due to overheating. See if its hot.
This could also be due to poor gorunding at the ground cluster at the case centerline.
if your fuel tank has not been cleaned out and you have a strainer/sock filter in there now....running it too low on gas with a bunch of crud in the tank can permanetly clog the strainer.
Also....next time it does and will not start....quickly pull a spark plug and see if its flooded. If it is...disconnect or check your cold start valve. Ray |
