Looking to buy a set of ball joint dropped spindles for my other vehicle.
i know CB's unit has been around for some time.
Any idea on Airkewld's unit? they are both priced around the same. I cheked their site, they have veryice looking kits, with lifetime warranty on the rotor, but only looking for spindles now.
Are they both forged?
both have around the same offset? 3/8"
later upgrades?
CB's wide 5 kit have a diff spindle that goes with their brake kits only.
Can I buy a disc brake kit from Airkewld later on to use on a drum spindles? |

If you purchase spindles now, from either of us, you will not be able to install disc brakes on their spindles. The brake kits are proprietary to their spindles.
You can purchase drum drop spindles now and buy disc brakes from us later and it will bolt on with out issue.
Also, we are having a Black Friday sale this friday where you can get 10% off with coupon code BLACK2009. I hope this helps! |

| More specifically, would your wide 5 balljoint discs fit on CB's balljoint drop spindles? |

An in general comment - no matter what set you buy it will be one of the best things you can do for your bug for looks and handling.
When the spindles first came out I bought a pair, from who I forget it has been so long ago, like 19 years, the off set was crazy. So bad I could not have a passenger in my car on turns or the tires would rub. I put Creative Car Craft fenders on all four that went away. Also put Ghia disks on which was a simple bolt on and a vast improvement over the drums.
Mine are cast iron but with all the factors the same like cost and off set I would go with forged. It seems to me that would be the only determining factor. |

While you're in here, Pete, a few more.
1. Given a wide-5, b/j, drum drop spindle front end, what is the track increase with each caliper; the standard, the 2-piston and the 4-piston?
2. Which calipers will a 67 dual circuit master and stock rear drums work best with? Can the stock master be used at all? |

B/J Drop Spindles will kick the wheels out 3/8" on each side. The 0 offset does not add any track width but it does not negate the track width associated with the drop spindles.
the 2 and 4 piston Wilwood calipers at 3/8" to each side.
I would not recommend a stock master with any disc configuration. The spring rate does not help remove the fluid from inside the master like the Disc master that we offer. The factory spring does not have enough "umph" to release the calipers.
But as used for years, a 69 and later master can work with a residual valve. Even though some use it with out, the product could work that much better with the valves. How ever, with the new master, you no longer need them. |

FWIW, the 67 I bought this spring already had a CB wide-5 disc brake kit installed on the front that included the dropped spindles, using the original 67 master (stock drums on the rear). I'm very pleased with the performance of these, the pedal has good feel and the brakes are easy to modulate at the limit. Not in the VW world, but I have driven other old cars with aftermarket brake conversions and upgrades that either have pedal feel that is too spongy or too sensitive. The operation of the CB brakes is a pleasant surprise.
cheers

Ok, with your disc master in place, can I run stock rear drums off of that?
Your website also lists four calipers; standard, 1-, 2-, and 4-piston. The standard is the Ghia? |
