need some help. i have picked up a 66 912 that needs a motor and trans. just picked up the trans and need some help with the motor. i am thinking a 2275 type one , or the type four out of my race car. the type 4 is spendy for exhaust and i do not think that the carb and intake manifold will fit. and 6 mpg sucks, but it would be nice to have a 2900 cc motor in it. so i think that it will be the type one for now. what do i need to do to get the type one to mate up to the 912 trans? what do i need to do for clutch, flywheel. is the 912 input shaft the same as vw? or is it a g50? please do not give me a bad time about putting a vw motor in a porsche. the car will never be restorable to stock , so i am going to have a fun daily driver. thanks christian 8)

You have to look carefully at your gearbox. 901 / 902 Porsche work with 200mm clutch and 130 teeth on the ring. Anything else can be modified to fit but will be difficult.

the type 1 motor will bolt right up to your 901 gear box.
the input shaft is the same. use a vw clutch

do a search for porsche 901 gearbox in a bug and it will tell you more. just ignore the parts about mounting the trans in your vw because its already mounted in your porsche

4 speed or 5 speed it doesnt matter the install is the same.

you will need to fabricate/modify an engine hanger bar for your 912

almost any larger than stock(1776) vw engine will make your 912 faster than it was with the 912 engine. weve done a few conversions in 912s over the years
