Is this some kind of VW product we are discussing here?

Oh, dang, a day later I see this is for a Bay Window Bus. Sorry for the erroneous post. I don't know squat about buses.

My 72 Toyota LC has a mechanical pump. I probably could find a diagram for that. Are you asking about a Toyota? How about a Dodge I have a Dodge Truck manual as well.

Always nice to tell people what your ride is if you want a correct reply.

There's at least 5 different configurations I can think of for a stock bus (assuming it's a bus you are asking about) and many more if aftermarket parts are involved, throw us a bone dude.

It goes from the tank, to the mechanical fuel pump, to the carb. \:D/

I had to do it.

There we go, was that so hard?? Maybe you sould add that to your sig line for next time.

The fuel line comes from the bottom of the tank and should have an inline filter added there, then it goes to a metal line that goes through a grommet on the left side of the firewall tin, around the left of the engine under the manifold and ends near the fuel pump, a short piece of rubber line goes to the top fitting on most pumps and a piece of rubber line goes from the bottom fitting to the carb.
It's a really good idea to clamp all the fittings and safety wire the clamps to the fuel pump and carb body to keep them from pulling out of the castings.

Excellent description of the way it should be on an upright engine. Amazing how so many people have done if differently thinking that their mickey mouse redesign is better. The one part that gets people baffled is the steel tube that goes thru the front tin and around the end of the fan shroud. They are pre bent and readily available thru VW parts houses. It's the same tube that is used on both bugs and busses.

Alright thanks, now that we found one will it fit with duel webers/manifolds etc or do you think I'll need to pull some stuff off the engine to get it in. I've got rubber fuel line going from the tank to the pump right now and I'm having trouble sleeping at night because if it.

Mine is using the stock steel tube going around the left end of the fan shroud and it has dual baby Webers on it. Everything's great, plenty of room. Also I like to use a small rubber covered clamp on the steel line using the bolt at the left end of the shroud. It keeps the steel line from any moving around. Anything for a better nights sleep. With dual's, the tube is easier to get into position than with a stock dual port manifold.
