rtaylor wrote: what makes you say mofoco makes bad parts? my engine runs great with all my parts from them, out runs all the VWs around here and it has way bigger tires on it than stock

I was an engine builder, worked at an ACVW shop and have seen everything weird, or shitty put together. Mofoco engines are awful. They don't run sound and use cheap chinese shit too. I've never ran across a Mofoco engine that has worked well or properly.

My heads were made by mofoco here in the US, and my car has its own distinct sound that sounds amazing, almost liek a harley. lol

That'd be your exhuast that causes the sound my friend. We installed a Tri-Mil Eurotip muffler to my friends 1776cc engine and it too sounds like a Harley. We ordered are parts (rather had them ordered) from IMC which is a sight that only parts dealers can order from. All the things from Mofoco are built here in the US but it's super hit and miss, just like the new 34-3 carburetors. Some people have all the luck in the world with them while the majority of other people run into countless problems with them that makes the engine impossible to tune. I come from the beleif of german parts are the only parts to be installing on your Volkswagen due to the fact of seeing countless cars having Chinese and US parts installed on them that don't work properly or are poorly made. That's been my experience though..Glad to know that Mofoco items have worked out for you. As far as you go Jason, shoot me a text with any questions about parts and I'll direct you where you need to go. On that note, that carburetor you have installed right now was intended for a DVDA distributor and will not run worth a damn with an SVDA installed. So if you have the money, I'll try and get you a german SVDA carb and then either order a new 205zb or a new 034..You won't be disappointed.

i misread what you wrote :/ I thought you said their heads made a bad sound. haha. well i've rebuilt 2 other motors for other people using mofoco heads and their engines are running great too, so maybe I just got lucky and got all the hits and none of the misses :P

Well, I ordered the Wolfsburg West catalog; it should be coming in tomorrow! (Hopefully they don't keep sending stuff to this address...the next guy who gets my dorm room is going to be so annoyed if they do!)

Not mine, my mom's! And it's in the process of getting a full restoration. :D (Finally...after we have had it for five years now...)

lol. My dad has 5 69 challengers in his compound but they are all dissasembled and in need of restoration. There is 2 that could be restored and the rest are parted out shells. That thing looks doable.

Man...I miss my car so much. I'm researching parts and all that for Spring Break, and this summer I plan on having a job and working my tail off!

Here's from my thread:
I have the Wolfsburg West catalog, so I will be doing some long-distance restoration! I will be buying the new rear main oil seal, pushrod tubes, and a few other oil-related seals. Anything else I should do when the engine is out?
Furthermore, I have been planning and planning what I'm doing this summer for my Beetle. He's getting his wheels finally painted. I'm going to straighten out the massive dent in his driver's door. The engine should hopefully require minimal work after my Spring Break operations. I'm going to install a cheap speaker or two in the front of the car in the footwells, so that I can have better balance in my music! Using thin plywood, I'll build the "walls" up front in the footwells to house the speakers, which will also keep the carpet up, as it always falls down. Using some of that thin wood, I may build a trunk cover so that I can put stuff in the trunk over the spare tire. The rear luggage tray is also getting attention this summer, as it's most likely beginning to rust a bit. The interior lights are going to be fixed, so that I can see in the car when I'm looking for something in him at night. I may order a new set of sunvisor clips, as my passenger one isn't even installed anymore. I'm going to clean up the front bumper, maybe installing non-destroyed overriders up there. I may sand down the driver's front fender and clean it up a lot. I plan on replacing the transmission fluid. Also, the shifter is so sloppy that I think it's finally time to install the new bushing! Basically, college has made me really miss my car!
I will also get a summer job to actually be able to afford to drive Beetlebaum!
Any other suggestions in terms of things to fix this summer? I'm asking since I'll be ordering from Wolfsburg West soon, hopefully!
Thanks!

I decided not to remove my engine right now for the repaint. I figured since im going to teach my mom how to drive standard this summer it will give me a good reason to remove my engine, to change the clutch :P. Shes already burned my dads clutch out and he refuses to try to teach her again. Im counting on her liquifying it so che can buy me a new one and ill have a reason to take the engine out for a top end rebuild while im at it :) . ive got a plan. Its funny because he clims to be a "proffesional driver" because she used to drive a school bus. Everytime she does i throw her my keys and tell her to go drive my car. My dad thinks its hytarical  .

It is realy amazing onhow many teens are interested in oldervolkswagen. Ever since I was a kid i was interested in old cars in general but the German engineering in the volkswagons always interested me the most. Just the history of the vehicles is interesting. I have a 1974 Volkswagon super beetle that is a Sun Bug. It was painted blue awhile back for some reason. I have been spending all my free time stripping it out put new floor pans and getting it painted back to its OG color. Ive done all the work myself so far. But I do send tghanks to my Dad and all my VW fans that have helped me with any questions i have had. :D

Dammit! When the hell am I ever going to finally get a free weekend with no projects, reports, or make-up work!!!!

I really need to give the Bug a tune-up, but I never have free time anymore.

And I finally hit a squirrel today.

TjdTaylor Thu Feb 09, 2012 4:25 pm

aww poor squirrel :( a few weeks before i got my g2 i hit a turtle :( ive had atleast 4 birds fly into my windsheild (all died) and i ran over a possum. Those were just things IVE hit driving.

TENNESSEE Fri Feb 10, 2012 1:46 am

yeah, almost 3 am, and I'm running on nothing but black coffee, but my research paper rough draft is done, which means I don't have to worry about that evil thing again for another week, when the final draft is due.

Now, other than a bit of history work, that I can probably get down this afternoon, I'm free for the weekend!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

hooray for coffeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!! For without it, none of this would be possible. :D

Also, I meant to post this earlier, but I was digging through an old folder on my computer, and found a really cool shot of my car I'd never edited, or drawn from. Check it out:
