Did the barndoor Engine lid handle continue into the latter splits (pre 61) or are they slightly different?
Cheers

of course NOT ! The handle is a spezial barndoor item. Much more smaller and full metal.

55-up Buses did not have engine lid handles.

The rear hatch handles are different.

Ev, you're good! That's like one of those "What color was George Washington's white horse?" questions.

well i learnt this from key maestro Gabriel at HO09
we bored each other stupid with BD key talk for 30mins or more
brilliant

i think i have this the right way round...
early BD handles (51/52?) have a flat area around the key entrance
late BD handles (53/54/55?) have a recessed area here

three here are Flat (early), far right is Recessed (late)

Recessed handle is ringed

the difference is quite subtle, easpecially as the flat area gets worn on the early handles

keys - early BD should have the 'Volcano' key, late BD should have the 'Lotus Leaf' key
i personally think the 'Cutout VW' key came with replacement handles

Si, its go go go down here;)

So the handle is the same, but it's the lock that is different then

My NOS handle has a VW cutout key. There is no packaging so it very well could be a dealer replacement handle.

Early barndoors ignitions took A profile keys, later took P profile. I think the handles are the same, only the keys and locks are differant.

RockStock Wed Dec 09, 2009 9:24 am

well its not so much the lock that is is different, more the lock faceplate...
yes, handles otherwise look identical

Brian_Mccue Wed Dec 09, 2009 10:26 am

looks like the wrong lock, therefore the wrong key, etc etc
best to keep your eyes open for a later shell.
