And not all of us in CA would throw something like that away.

Sorry someone did that to you. Probably the guy or gal who owns an adjacent lot. They are tired of having people pull up all hours to look it over.

That said - California is not the friendly place it once was. We are in Sacramento and this place is a cross between people who need adrenaline 24/7 and I'll get across the street when I feel like it. Add to that the Tea Party movement who ask everyone to goosestep and Heil Norquist.

Too bad Tea Party movement had 100,000 people on the Mall in DC last month and left no garbage and there were no arrests. Your problem is elsewhere. Besides Santa Cruz is filled with Liberals and that's where the Bus got messed up.

On the original topic, at least it was only soap.

I wish it were only soap. They used some type of joint compound or grout. It was still soft so I could scrape off the thick stuff and used mineral spirits on what was left. I always figured this was a good spot to leave a car, the fence in the photo runs the entire length of that lot. It was there for 2 weeks. I’ve been in this neighborhood for 2 years, so the bus was not out of place.

Maybe someone was trying to soften me up for a lowball offer. I set up a web page with photos. What price do you guys think is fare? It needs a smog and brake/light check. I’m still sorting out the FI (it’s all there and stock) it runs and drives but is underpowered, compression is good. I have around $2k into it. I’m asking $5k, keep in mind we’re talking coastal California dollars.

Without a smog certificate this is a parts bus. $5k seems insane to me.

Kalifornia law stipulates that the seller of a vehicle MUST provide a smog certificate. I wouldn't even have it listed for sale until it passes smog.

Glad you got the stuff off there before it dried.

Figured I would update this. I did sell it, made a healthy profit too. Still sad to see it go, but couldn’t justify keeping 3 cars on the mean streets of northern California. On the up side with the money made my Westy will have a quality rebuilt engine and new tires. Of course in 10 years those will be worth nothing and that bus will be worth 2 to 3 times what I sold it for.

That was a sweet bus. But think about all the fun you will have in your Westy the next 10 years. :P

Perhaps this is just my view, but maybe you have an envious neighbour who doesn't want to see the bus leave?

At a glance, it was only the rear window with the 'For Sale' sticker that got covered, right?
