I do have a suggestion, our dept where i work maintain some systems that require users to update. Every 6 months an email is sent out to remind users to renew there wireless info. This reminder is sent twice, once 4 weeks and the second 1 week before the account is set to expire. A system like this would work good. Though info i.e. address and phone numbers tend to change often, email is not. In this manner the percentage of "correct" info for AIRS will be correct and current, and those who "forget" or fall out of the hobby will be weeded out automatically.

Yes, I would do that if it were hosted here, assuming every "member" had an email. All new members would be required to provide an email. |

I'm on the AIRS list. I had 3 college guys contact me once. They bought an early Bay without knowing anything about VW's and took a road trip from Cali to Georgia to visit one of them's sister. Got to Texas and blew the seals on their oil cooler. We had them back on the road pretty quickly. Of course, they had their laptop with them and were able to access the list. I usually printed a list for the states I was going to travel through and kept it in my bus.
A list that could be kept current would be great. Ev, if you were to implement this on theSamba, maybe you could have a checkbox on the control panel for members to opt in to be put on the list. |

| The AIRS list says it is being updated right now. I checked my listing and my new info I sent in 4 weeks ago is posted. |

Excellent discussion and suggestions. Whether it ends up an improved Type 2 AIRS or a Samba venture this could be a great help for the community at large. I don't know why the Baywindow forum member map is all messed up but that general type format would be slick.
Another thing that maybe could somehow be incorporated is a listing of contact info for VW related shops. For instance, here in Phoenix, if someone wanted to find a VW shop or VW parts supplier and didn't know what's in town it would be difficult to find anything. The Yellow page directory is just plain useless. Even looking through our Community business listing there are many local shops that arn't listed.
Seperate coverage in the various forums would have benefits although ACVW's are basically the same. And obtaining parts, help, tools, etc is all pretty much in common with bugs, busses, earlies, lates, etc. We're all Dubbers. |

Absence of a graphic makeover or having a banner add that says happy hannukah or whatever does not dictate an up-to-date site. Info updates are done all the time behind the scenes. I typically receive 1 to 3 information edits a week and probably 2 'delete me's a month. I also average 1 sign up every other day or so. I continually have people email me when they find bad email addresses and those people are deleted. With over 3000 members worldwide, there is no doubt plenty of bad info even though all requested information changes are up to date. And there are still new members to post.
Wether it's a database with registered users or setup requiring an email to me, it boils down to the people themselves keeping their info up to date and they just won't do it. For example, I know a certain someone in this thread, who's information is outdated  But hey people get busy and it's the last thing on their mind. The classifieds is a perfect example. I do like the auto email people suggestion from spanish flea, I just dont know how to implement that. If any of you have found all of this bad info, why havent you emailed me?
I get emails from people using it all the time on their travels commenting on the list helping them. I have went and saved a few people myself.
But as the site states- if you are using it you are expected to report bad information you come across. It is setup that way for a reason. But of course most people wont do that.
As far as meeting new local VW people, there is a selection for 'Coffee/talk' to do that.
My site is currently hosted on the Type2.com website and they seem to like it there and didn't want me to leave last time it came up
I tried doing the shop suggestion idea originally, but was flooded with emails saying " Why is this shop on here, he is a crook!@!#@!@#" and etc. |

I've never had to use the AIRS list myself, but I've received a few calls and emails as a result of being listed.
It would be awesome if it was perpetually updated with the automatic expiration/renewal notice someone had suggested. |

I think Kommercial is saying that he only receives a couple requests a week. He can't update information that isn't provided to him. |

A simple "AIRS listing last updated Dec. 20, 2009" might clear that up. |

Why not do one of those maps with the pins for each member of the group? There's a sticky with this function in the Baywindow forum:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=139147
It'd be something of an AIRS list with a graphical interface, and presumably would be self-executing in the sense that anyone could change their info as needed (large assumption made). Someone would have to set it up and then just let it run. |

| Excellent idea- It was mentioned on page one  . But the push pin Sticky map just plain doesn't work. Sure would be nice if it did. |
