NOTE: for anybody just reading this.
We have established that for some reason this engine was built with Distributor 180 out. :( |

| If the builder did not get the distributor drive right, what else is wrong. |

| We have also established that it ran when I first bought it. IE before monkeying around with it :P |

| This may sound strange, but a high idle can be fuel starvation/intake leak. I would pull the top off carb after running it to see what the fuel level looked like in the float bowl. Blow down/clean your idle jet. Make sure float operates freely and check that shut off at needle and seat is good. If float bowl has any goo or discoloration I would pull carb and clean it/soak it. Mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, and white vinegar all work to remove specific(but different) contaminants. Good luck, it has been a while since you've had any sounds like! |

Carb seems a little dirty but not bad. Jet seems clean and sprays good. Float operates smoothly. seat seems to be ok, bowl has slightly discolored fuel and some particulates in it. The image showing that lever on the bottom right side of carb seems to operate (spray) just fine.. but how fast should that lever return to closed? Mine comes back to close slowly.
Images attached.
forgive me I dont have much an experience. |

| fuel bowl level is low due to all of my functional tests seeing how things work. And no, there was no filter in the inlet for me to remove. |

| If you have compressed air, blow down all the orifices. That fuel looks funky in color, but may just be picture reproduction. No particulate at all should be inside the float bowl. Get everything as clean as possible, install a good fuel filter. The accelerator pump rod/linkage should return freely and quickly, bore/orifices may be contaminated. The accelerator pump may be the problem you have been experiencing!!!! |
