View original topic: Gas Tank in Rail Buggy

I'm getting a new gas tank for my rail buggy...replacing my 8" X 30" with a 10" X 30". Should I stay with aluminum or go with polished stainless?

I'm leaning towards the stainless but I've had a few guys tell me they scratch real easy. Not sure if this is true or even a real issue. That said, my rail is primarily a street machine so not sure it will see much abuse.

What do you guys think.

Thanks, Toby

Honestly you should put in a fuel cell

You want it pretty and functional or just functional... I have an aluminum one.. it dosent leak, so i dont care.. what you want is up to you

I'd prefer the polished stainless tank due to having a lot of chrome on the motor already...though a new aluminum tank wouldn't look all that bad either.

There are likely no real concerns with choosing either just thought I would throw the question out there...maybe someone had an experience that may influence the purchase one way or the other.

I agree with the fuel cell idea. If you want it to look better, have a cover built for it out of any material you choose: ie: stainless or aluminum. Stainless is also stronger than aluminum so it should hold up much better against scratchs.

They are all gonna get muddied and dirtied up sooner or later

Go with what you prefer. Stainless looks good and is stronger and durable than aluminum.

Safety. And they look really cool.

fuel cell for sure. If you tip the buggy over and the gas cap comes off it will dump gallons of fuel on you and the motor. thats ALWAYS a bad combo. If you check the classifieds you can get a used one or Jegs has them pretty cheap as well.

good looking buggy!

think about what you are going to use the area above or below your tank for also.
