I was curious if anyone knows of any offroad driving areas in or around Irwindale CA (210/605 frwys) as there is alot of rough terrain in that area, that I have seen on google earth.

I have just built a new Ford 2.3 turbo for my buggy and I just simply wanted to putt around check the tuning and put some hours on the motor before I take it on a long trip out to Glamis or Blythe. Are there any other offroad places around this area? or do any local members here own any large dirt lots or fields ?

Driving around my block is not an option, as I have now been warned by the cops.

Thanks in advance.

In a word, no.

To my knowledge, the closest place to go offroading is a dinky little place north of Azusa called the San Gabriel Canyon OHV area or "Azusa Canyon" locally. It is a fee-area, don't know the current cost. It requires a green sticker or four-wheel-drive. It is often very crowded and overrun with kids and mamas on quads and such. There is a lot of water and mud to play in, if that's what you're into.

With your open frame, mid-engine and implement tires, I'm guessing you're more interested in dunes. As such, you're closest options are Dumont, Glamis and Pismo.
There is some offroading areas in the Cleghorn area south of the Cajon Pass but I don't know if they allow green-sticker or not. It's trails and hill-climbs though, not sand.

Azusa canyon is ok, lots of river rocks due to the riding area being a run-off plain. Over Cajon Pass into Victorville is Lucerne Valley. 140,00 plus acres of dirt, shale, sand, hills, washes, everything. I race out there in District 37 10 months out of the year. From your pictures you have desert tires. This area would be a good place for you to try. It's about 1.5 hours from Arcadia.

Also there's Ocotillo Wells down by Salton Sea. Same terrain just different location. About 2.5 hours from your location.

Another place right around that area is El Mirage.

El Mirage is cool due to the lake bed but the bastards started charging day fees . Last time I was therre I think it was $ 15.00 per truck. The area is small so unless I'm jetting/tuning/wanna haul ass, I stay away.

Gorman up off the five charges $ 5.00 per truck is it's decent to play in.

Not only does el mirage charge now but it's a bust. I personally like lucerne or stoddard wells but that's probably just because I've been going there forever.
You should check this site out http://www.dirtopia.com/wiki/California if you haven't already. It has a list of trails/ohv areas and it also tells you what you can use out there (prerunners, buggys, 4x4s, etc)

The Azusa canyon ohv area is very close to the speedway. I go up there often in my buggy, but if you don't have 4 wheel drive the rangers wont let you in without a green sticker. (I had mine dual registered just so I could go up there).

There is also a fire access road / trail that goes all the way to hwy 2 (called the Rincon Shorcut). Last time I tried to get the combo to the gate from the rangers it was closed though.

Yes, the Rincon Shortcut Trail has been closed for two years. They were supposed to reopen it last fall, but to my knowledge, it is still closed. The Santa Clara Divide trail system above the Tujunga/La Canada area was closed down after the Station fire. That is a cool area, too. The only off-road friendly area close to Irwindale (besides Azusa Cyn) that I know of is Barro's Pizza on the last Tuesday of each month.
