I have a very bad squeak that seems to be getting worse coming from the rear of my IRS bug that is really getting obnoxious. You can hear it over every bump coming up the road. It s really hard to identify exactly where its coming from but i think it is from the spring plate cover/bushing. so i'm gonna pull off the cover and ... the manual suggests talcum powder and i'm wondering if i just pick up some at the drug store or what and is there possible a better product. There is a chance i have urethane i'll know when i remove the cover and whether i can grease them with a product of some sort.
My other ideas on the squeak is the shocks i have kyB gas adjust that go to within 1/2" of their limit. I didnt have a problem with my last set but possible these are damaged. All bolts seem tight. Could also be the trailing arm pivot bushing.. i'm not sure if these need to be greased.
Looking for some advice before i get under there and start taking things apart. A good spray product? i can shoot into the parts maybe |

| I have the poly bushings and used the super grease that came with them. It only lasted about 4 months of off-road riding before they started to squeak. I loaded them with Anti-Seize compound and been going 2 years with no squeaks. |

| Before you go tearing anything apart, take a stout screwdriver and wedge it between the spring plate and the housing and wiggle it a bit. If debris fall out, you may have found the source of your squeak, and maybe even fixed it.. Had a squeak on my bus drive me around the bend until I put it up on jackstands and really manipulated the suspension with another jack...found a piece of gravel wedged between the spring plate and the shock tower housing. |

I took the cover off the spring plates and it appears the squeak is coming from the inner bushing/side of the spring plate. I will try what you said with the screwdriver cause i really dont want to take the spring plate off. I need to replace the trailing arm on that side so i will wait till i do that to take the spring plate off if i have too. I tried getting some graphite in there but there was no improvement . turns out all my bushings are urethane. |
