OK I changed the pics.
It looks to be in better shape than the 68 I sold. For some reason, it appears as if two pieces of plywood have been sandwiched to the back metal firewall. As you can see, the wiring is terrible. There are open shorts all over the place.
It has a 30 PICT 1 carburetor on it and 009 centrifugal advance distributor. After it gets warm, it sputters, has a horrible hesitation that kills the engine. One of the mufflers sputters out black smoke while the other does not. I am not at all in love with the rear engine guard. I plan on making something much sturdier. |

Well, it urns out that the guy who is selling it go it from a "guy" who got it from another "guy".... And there isn't a bill of sale anywhere, even though there is a title.
The DMV said that he either needs to track down one of the 3 guys on the title (Of whom he knows nothing about, nor where to contact them and refused my offer to look them up on the internet) or wait 3 months and declare the vehicle "abandoned".
I suggested that he just file for a lost title and do it in my name (No money has exchanged hands yet) and he said he wanted to do it the "right, legal and moral" way.
He said he'd contact his wifes uncle who gave him the vehicle to see if he knew how to get a hold of any of the 3 guys on the title. I guess I will see.
He said if he couldn't get a bill of sale then he'd just part it out and haul the shell to the scrap yard. |

| I would say buy a roller bug and transfer all the parts to that. as for the backfiring it might be too lean to run right i would step up to a way bigger main jet thats what cured my stumble and low power problem. when its cold the choke is on making it run pig rich thats why it runs good cold but not hot (exactly what mine did) |

I believe they'll only re-issue a "lost" title to someone who's listed on the current title. Otherwise, what's stopping a person from picking a nice ride out of the parking lot and applying for a "lost" title on it?
The replacement title is gonna have the same guy(s) listed on it as the current one. It's just a duplicate document. |

| in CA if it fell out of dmvs system they have no record on file so it has no owner unless you have a title so you just file for lost title as the owner. the right way to do it is to go to dmv and ask for a lien sale packet you fill that out (it has instructions with it) and 30 days after you file it you get the packet and take it to dmv and its you car. |

The fact that that vehicle is already registered to someone else? I am talking about a vehicle that is not in their system. |

Yeah, but he wants to do it according to the letter of the law. He even went so far as to say that if he could not obtain the title by contacting one of the 3 POs on the title, then he would part out the car. |

| you go to dmv and ask for a lein sale packet, you fill out the papers per the instructions. you take that back to dmv and 30 days later the car is yours. it costs like 20 bucks. it will ask you where it is stored and why you need the lein and your situation should allow a lein. where in Ca are you? |

I am in the high desert of California. Would this entail lying or stretching the truth of the actual situation at all? |

| In california the most common liens are "mechanics liens" levied for unpaid repair bills, closely followed by Towing/storage fee liens. If you hold the vehicle or "store" it, they owe YOU for it, thus in 30 days a "lien" against the title is formed. There is absolutely nothing hinky or immoral about this!!!!! |

Could let me come get it and I do some of our wonky oklahoma title law's on it. (We've got a big problem with stolen cars getting titles out here  )
I could use a rust free baja!
On a serious note, I'd see about buying it just for the parts unless you are paying more then what it is worth part wise. |

He originally wanted $3,000 for it. The paint looks nice from a distance, but isn't that great when you get up close. It has one of those horrible gauze filters on it and there was dirt CAKED on the inside of the filter plate/carb. You see the wiring.. But he says everything works. He won't let me do a valve job on it, or even work on it in the mean time.
He says because I am going through a friend, he was willing to go as low as $1,200 on it. The serial numbers match. There is minor rust-through under the battery.
It also shifts really strangely, finding first is nearly impossible. If you go all the way over to the stop, it acts like it refuses to shift. You may end up eventually in 1st, or 3rd. I dunno if its a clutch adjustment, a worn syncro, or a worn out shift linkage. The ball joints up front are open, the boot has worn off, and the right rear shock is shot.
What do you guys think for $1,200? He feels it is worth "Much more" and he is doing me a huge favor at that price. What do you think? |
