| alright, i have replaced my ignition switch once before, but now when i hit a hard bump off road (and the key backs out a tad, i can do it by just pulling on the key as well) it shuts the bug down... i know how to fix it, my only problem is that there are like 4 or 5 prongs on the back of the ignition switch... with that said i just want to put a MOM switch or something similar on it to fire my bug up, what do all the wires on the original switch for? diagram's greatly appreciated!!! thanks guys |

Ummm.... There should be..
One wire that is "Hot" (+12 volts) all the time coming from "battery"...
There should be one wire going to fuse panel and other devices/accessories (yes ignition coil) that are controlled by ignition switch when key is in ON position....
There should be one wire going to fuse panel and other devices/accessories that are controlled by ignition switch with key in ACC position...
There should be one wire going to stater solenoid.....
What year is bug, knowing that it would be easy to identify existing wires (colors) by the proper schematic and be able to move them to new switch....
The problem is going to be finding a really good quality aftermarket ignition switch.... Most of them on "bug/buggy/aftermarket" are made in China crap.... You may want to look as some of the better quality "marine" switches, they seem to be better quality (at least for now)...

| its a 74 baja, i should probably just do a complete re-wire of it because they aren't all the right colors (previous owner hit the peace pipe then worked on it i think haha) i was going to buy a good one from jegs or summit like we used to use in my dads race jeeps and stuff- thanks for the input bro! |
