View original topic: Possibly Another OV Route Closing in Desert...

Little blurb in local paper...

Seems the "Center for Biological Diversity" group is again getting a federal judge (via lawsuit) to close some routes in Mojave desert because of a supposedly endangered desert tortoise...

If you guy don't ban together and form or help some of the off road groups and convince manufactures to become involved to preserve your riding space, eventually you will loose it all to environmental whacko's...........

Proof is recent closing of CA. STATE RUN ORV part near Sacramento CA because of a lawsuit because of supposed watershed damage to a "seasonal creek" that may run 4-6 weeks a year that begins nowhere and goes nowhere......

True Dale, and not only to the enviro whack jobs. Lucerne Valley which is located in the high desert North of San Bernardino was slated to be annexed by the Marines. Seems they needed a new playground. Two years of letter writing, attending local and federal meetings, protests, and so on has changed the minds of the military. They are currenntly looking for another location.

A Lot of people were involved in this campaign to stop Govermental eminent domain for bullshit reasons.

Unless OHV users do their part in protecting their areas, we will soon be forced to go outta state to have fun.

My son tells me the Marines are trying to get Johnson Valley back for a bombing range again.

He is a Rock Crawler.

Your son must be going to the King Of The Hammers race in February.... If he is not going then he needs to change his plans. That event is way cool.

Three alternatives are on the board again for Johnson Valley. CORVA, D37, and other groups are in negotiations along with some State reps. Again, contact your representative and express your concerns. We voted them in, now it's time to make them work !!!

The greenies are sneaky bastards. They are always behind the scenes working on something to "protect". I just saw this on the Ocotillo Wells site:

Ocotillo Wells SVRA was approved by the California Watchable Wildlife Program as a Watchable Wildlife Site. This program evaluates parks, recreation areas, and preserves for their wildlife-viewing potential. Although officially designated in September 2008, Ocotillo Wells SVRA has just recently received its road signs announcing its selection. The grand unveiling of the iconic binocular sign which identifies selected parks will be held on Monday, November 9, 2009, at 10:00 am. (We will be unveiling the sign just east of Ranger Station Road.) In the meantime, please check out the Watchable Wildlife website and the Ocotillo Wells SVRA write-up.

You may say "So what.", but it's just the first step. What's the mission of the Watchable Wildlife people?

The California Watchable Wildlife Project celebrates the state's wildlife and diverse habitats by acknowledging and elevating the value of wildlife viewing to benefit individuals, families, communities, and industries while fostering awareness and support for conservation and protection of wildlife and habitats.

Any time you hear talk like that, there's trouble brewing. Mark my words, they're out to shut down the area to off-roading. The signs are there. There is a ton of desert out there. Anza Borrego state park is right next door, but Ocotillo Wells SVRA is marked as a Watchable Wildlife Site? It's just a smoke screen.

Ocotillo has had that on their website for some time. I been riding that area for many years. There is still private land open to OHV use in addition to the State owned OHV land in and around Ocotillo, especially off S22. OC will be around for quite some time.

As I've said in posts before, if nobody stands up to State and Government land grabs then nobody has any reason to bitch. I've helped fight these battles for years, have won some and have lost some..... if more people got involved then more battles would be won.
