Jeezus people, you and your "accidents"
If the Bus gets hit so hard that a seatbelted person gets their legs crushed by parcel trays then there's a LOT more issues at hand...spinal injury, broken shoulder, broken ribs, likely arms/hands, glass fragmentation to the face, steering column embedded in your rib cage, etc.
If yer that worried then don't buy 'em...in fact, DON'T DRIVE!! It's a dangerous world out there... |

Wow, you need some anger control dude... this is a discussion forum so why not talk about it? or is it only to post pictures on and say ooh and aah?
What I mean is that if you get hit in a frontal accident, with a bit of luck you can survive, but with this parcel tray sticking out, the change of being kneecapped is pretty big... I'm pretty tall and when I look at the position of this tray it would be rubbing my legs only sitting there? but everybody has to choose for himself. I'm also going to mount a percel tray, but the smaller ones.
oh, and I was typing this when I was alone and talking for myself, so don't call me people. |

| OK kids. Settle down. As for leg injuries due to the trays. You know what folks say. "Stuff happens". For me, I dig my beat up old bus and love to drive it (when it runs LOL). From my past employment I learned and embraced a simple philosophy. When it's my time, it's my time. I have no choice in how it will be. |

Chill out yourself, o paranoid one, no anger involved, just exasperation. And because OTHER people mentioned it I used the word "people" instead of "you" to show I just wasn't singling you out  |

It is a serious decision to add items within your survival space.
My headlamp bucket is against the steering column. I walked away with a slight cut on my left shin and bruised ankles.
You can make your own informed decision based on your own probability analysis, your own adventure vs safety analysis, and your own desire for convenience/design whatever. There is no one here who can answer for another.
Colin
(p.s. If you can make sure that parcel shelf slides up the steering column in an impact, it might be a nice knee protector after all . . . :? but the passenger?) |

I just installed my new custom parcel trays. Purchased from Mr. Regalado in the Samba Classifieds.
Here's the ad: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=678630
The pics:
And the review:
They are nicely made and they fit like a glove. I had a real pain in the ass installing them though. No fault of the shelves, it was the 3 layers of metal on that vertical heater pipe. They get misaligned AT ALL and it's a nightmare getting that little bolt up in there. Watch out for that.
Great product though. They've been in the bus for 1 whole day and they have proven VERY useful. I set stuff on there all the time. Love them. No drilling, as promised.
These are the cheaper ones (EZ Rider) in black vinyl finish. |

| As cool as these look, they just look like something that would hamper the interior room and beat my shins all to hell. Just one on the passenger side would be nice though. |

Dude. I'm six-foot-one. Not a basketball player, but I'm not a small guy - and these come nowhere near my shins. They are in totally unused space. No shin bashing, no foot room problems.
I forgot to mention that those nice kick panels are the Werksberg ones, found in the Samba classifieds and I LOVE them as well. Good folks around here, makin' good stuff. |

Pretty sure my trays were crafted by the previous owner. I like em.

hm, hopefully we may never know, but i'm willing to bet this parcel tray might just bend upwards and slide up the steering column in an accident, before hitting your legs. ideally, anyhow :P |

They are all pretty neat. Any problems with kicking the underside of them?
To be honest the first thing that I thought was "ooh the fuse box is on the driver's side" |
