I just bought some Stephen Sand Viper II 1300's on Douglas rims. They were recommended to me by several people, saying they should clear the torsion housing on my IRS. They clip it by about 1/16 of an inch. They were aired up pretty high when I got them, so maybe if I air them down and let them sit, maybe they'll fit? Anyone have any trouble with this too? I may end up switching out the torsion bars and convert.

even if you air them down you would think they might still rub. i just think of when i'm in 4th or 5th gear pinned on my quad and how tall and skinny my tires get. not sure how soft yours are.

Yeah, I'm with Chubby on this one. I would look at some short bars and s/a style caps. If it is the paddles that are striking. If the problem is at the sidewall you can run spacers and longer wheel bolts, or convert to studs(which I did). My sandrail is currently swing axle, with minimum offset Douglas aluminums and Sand Viper 13:00's

It is the paddles that are rubbing, not the sidewall. I'll have to bolt 'em back up and see how much they are clearing side ways. Maybe a spacer could move them out enough to miss it. I hate using things like spacers, though. Already have the VW 4 bolt convertion plates to 5 bolt. I would hate to add spacers too.

I'll probably go with the s/a conversion. Anybody done that one? Looks easy enough... plus, I could add a chrome cover. Then I'd be fast!

if you use s/a torsion bars and spring plates, i would think it would be simple, just make cardboard template from your irs torsion plate, copy it to a s/a torsion plate and cut and drill, then presto.

If you can find a donor you will need the s/a torsions, caps, and arms. You can use your arms to make a cardboard or heavy paper template to cut the s/a swingarms down. Takes a little time and a little fab, but well worth the effort.
