I'm having issues identifying my carb that came with my 1600 dp rail. Any help?

I'm new but based on the smiley i'm guessing there not all that huh?

They are excellent when set-up properly. more power, and better acceleration.

Here is a link to a topic on the engines section, explaining all about how to set them up properly:

They can be fine, but are not all created equal. I ran a 32/36 progressive on my last baja, and it was the best carb I've ever run on a baja!

Some people have had success with these. They have all of the problems with any centermount two barrel (plus a few of their own). If you want a centermount ... use a stock solex on a stock manifold with good manifold heat. If you want dual singles ... Weber 34ICTs with bellcrank linkage. From there ... it all depends on your engine configuration and your wallet.

once jetted correctly, there is no difference in the problems with a stock carb, or a progressive. both need heat, and both need proper tuning. the only difference is with the webber, you get better MPG and more power. sound like a win win to me.

with duals, you have to sync them, and are a PITA to tune. any some set-ups require you to re-tune them as the seasons change.

just my 3.5 cents

Weber progressive takes a little tuning, but I have had very good luck with them.

I love mine. The only draw back I have with it is that it HATES the cold. In warm weather or once it's warmed up, it's awsome. On the inside of the bowl you should find (if memory serves me correctly) the name Holley stamped. The carb was a joint effort between Holley and Weber. they are easy to rebuild but, as stated before, a pain in the rear to dial in. Once you have it set you are good to go. I'm happy with mine and won't change it out anytime soon. Good luck and welcome to the Samba!

dual kadrons, love mine and easy to work on and change jets for bigger motors.

What would you suggest as an upgrade? Mainly looking for ease in tunning and decent performance out in the dunes. Also one with readily available information on would be a huge plus. My goal is to take it up Olds Mobile hill at Glamis and to be able to make it through the dunes.

Motoring up Olds or any other hill at Glamis is as much dependent on your gearing as it is on your engine output. Think about close ratio gearing.

Actually I do have a quick question about that...

I will be running a stock 1600 dp with the 34-2 solex ( ordering it now ) but I have a stock bug IRS tranny. Not exactly sure what year or gears are in it... Any idea?

Also what does it cost to get this thing re-geared for hte dunes?

I would build this one, once you jet it in, it stays adjusted (for the most part). The hard part is the jetting. Your's may already be set for your engine. I'll post a good rebuild web page when I get home tonight..

Weber licenced, Holley built, Model 5200. It's a Ford Pinto carb.

tekkski Wed Jan 13, 2010 3:38 pm

I bought a 34 PICT3 with new manifold and air filter. Probably going to be looking to get rid of the progressive. If anyone knows someone who is interested, figure 100 for mani and carb ? It needs to be rebuilt but ran the engine when I pulled it of.

There is a guy I work with and he is running a solex 34 and his is a 4 seat rail, he says he is happy with the power that he has and does just fine at the dunes according to him. I guess we shall see.

Yup, that's why I like it! (of course, I run a 2.0 pinto).
