I mounted up an axle and worked it through the stroke and found a couple of problems: 1) at full droop, the axle is too short and bottoms out on the clips; 2) when the axle is in plane with the transaxle drive flange, the stub axle is about an 1.5" forward of the drive flange.
QUESTIONS:
I measured the length of the frame horns and found them to be 2" longer than stock VW. I am guessing that I need longer arms, but how much longer? I've got a set of 930 micro stub hubs and brakes and 16" coilovers that were slated for a different project. With the transaxle shifted back 2", should I go with some 4x5 rear arms and switch to coilovers? Are 4x5's too long to use an Eagle coilover conversion kit? |

| It looks like you have 3x3 so 4x5 might be just right for your problem. but a 16 in. shock is too long all you need is a 14 in. also you will be wider in back than the front. |

I talked to Mark from BCR and he thought 4x5's or 5x5's would be a good choice to match the 10" over front with 2.5" arms. Due to the length, I'm leaning towards dual pivots instead of using a coilover conversion kit.
I know that 16" shocks are a bit too long, but I already own them. Since I need to make new mounts anyway, is there any reason that 16" shocks would be a bad idea? |
