So, I lurk and post over on the late model forum, and I'm getting (s-l-o-w-l-y) ready to rebuild my Daily Driver '68 standard's 1500. While I'm at it, there are some upgrades I'm interested in: A cage, fuel-cell, harnesses, remote-cooler, auxiliary lighting, appropriate tires...

I spend a lot of time surfing, hiking, fishing, camping, and travelling well off the beaten path here in my beautiful home of three decades, the Pacific Northwest. I've owned 7 VWs in my 36 years; busses, bugs and a Squareback, not to mention a lot of 'wheelers--Landcruisers, Internationals, Willys, Chevys, Jeeps. I'm a trucker by trade, so I can offer some advice about what will work as far as high-mileage and abuse are concerned.

I'm simply interested in seeing what you guys are up to, asking some questions, offering what help I can, and doing some research for my car. I'm looking at building an expedition VW to fit my specific needs (safety, economy and longetivity--NOT speed), and I look forward to seeing what you're up to!

What's up Fitz. That's alot of VW's. Ever have a baja, rail, buggy? I love bugs, but I love beating on my baja too much to ever go back. Ok that's a lie, I've been working a buddy to give up on a 65 he's been sitting on. We will see.

i'm with you on that, always been partial to type 3's, i had a sback that i could tap the gas and have it scrape the ground, man i miss that car. I could take a 25 mph corner at 55 without hesitation. someday i'll build a bad ass notch.

Funnily enough, somebody posted this over on the Late Model Forum a few days ago, and it crystalized my ideas, led me here, and became my screen saver.

That's almost exactly what I'd like to do, only not quite as lifted. It's not that that lift isn't just about right in every way, it's just that the amount of fabbing invloved outweighs my low-buck nature.

Gorgeous car though!

Oh, and yeah, it's a lot of VWs. Four bugs, two busses and a Squareback. I miss every one!
