On a side note.. i just picked up these from a friend at work. He put Caymen wheels on his 944. I Have wheel adapters on their way and hope i can find 2 6" versions of these 7" cookie cutters for the front and then i have a second set of cool wheels to put on the '64, my oval or whatever bus i end up with (if i can ever find one!)

i was kinda of liking the other style you were going for. i think cosmics would look better. 8)

The cookie cutters are not for the '64.. i have other aircooled projects in the works :)

i've got another thread going about axle seals leaking in this car. There is sereously supposed to be oil INSIDE the boots on the trans end of the axles??

ferfer6 Mon Jun 28, 2010 7:55 pm

I think the stance is way better now. I like the rear wheel/tire combo a lot. Awesome looking ride man.

hemifalcon Mon Jun 28, 2010 10:16 pm

If you have a stock swingaxle, there is oil in those boots. Oil goes all the way down the axles to lubricate the bearings at the wheel end of the axles.

redbug64 Wed Jun 30, 2010 6:48 pm

Yep im definatly understanding that now.. i kinda thought there would be as there are seals at the end of the axle tubes but i just never would have thought the bolted together boots would have oil in them. Thanks for the help and nice comments :)

Is there any chance you bought this bug from a family in PA back in the mid 90s? It looks exactly like a ruby red 64 my dad and I fixed up. Yours even has the wrong license plate light that we may have installed. The color is darker in our pics but they had to be scanned so maybe they are off. It was sold to a teenager thats all I can remember...

Let me know that would be absolutely incredible if that was the bug we fixed up over 15 years ago!

It could have been possible if it had been fixed up 20-25 years ago. I did buy it from a family (IN Vermont) who bought it restored for their son who drove it year round untill it rotted out and was undriveable. I bought it as a project when i was 14 and restored it with my father over a few years. We stripped it to bare metal to repaint and guessed on the correct color as the old paintjob was pretty much ruined. My car also had slilver painted wheels when i got it, and mine has a metal sunroof so i guess that kills it right there. I had it on the road in 1998 and the motor blew. I was A senior in highshchool then so i just parked it and drove watercooled vw's untill last fall when i pulled it out of storrage and added the lowering stuff, new motor etc to make it like you see now. I'm going to be 31 in November :) It would be REALLY cool but i dont think its the same car :(

Here is a scanned in pic of how i found it covered in cedar sap while i was subbing for a friends walking paper route :)

Any updates? Fresh pictures would be awesome, if you get a chance. I love what you were doing with this bug!

Posted it in the deep wheel thread. hope you don't mind:

Well here in VT its Winter. I have over a foot of snow outside my front door and this beetle is hidden away in a storrage unit for a few months. I'm planning on pulling the wheels back off and having the redlines put back on and mabye doing another motor swap but for now:

I also just picked up this and have it in a tarp shed type thing AT my house.. trying to do a quikie and have it on the road for the summer. ;)

Thanks for posting pics in that wide wheel forum.. i did not know it was there. Funny to see people hatin' on it AND loving it too! :)

Allright. Winter has been pretty weak here in Vermont. I'm getting excited about getting my '64 back on the road for the summer. Unfortunatly it did not get a dry storage unit this year because my part way painted 911 had to sleep there. I did, however, store it next to my oval under a roof on the side of my fathers garage. Its covered and safe. I bought a NEW carb for the 1600 last summer and even with that its not running right. I'm still having a surging problem and it doesnt like to idle. I'm not sure what i'm going to do yet but i wanted to bump my thread out of the grave. Oldschool pic of her just for the hell of it. Circa 1998?
