ok, im doing a swing axle to irs conversion, im all done with everything and i just set in the transmission, and there is a problem. my cv's are going to rub on the frame horns. Has anyone else ran into this?? if so what the best solution? im thinking either beat the horns with a hammer or cut out and box the section in. either way will it still be strong enough or should i put in some type of reinforcements???? Thank you for all who help with this

Must be an early model bug, what year is it? The earlier ones have taller frames horns, it's pretty common to cut and clearance them. I wouldn't beat them with a hammer, and i'd make sure I welded up all the seams real good.

im not too sure of the year, i bought a frame and this torsion was on it so i just converted it, i guess cut and clearance will be my plan. just cant seem to get ahead in this project lol

Welcome to owning a Baja!!

IRS VW's had an indentation in the frame horns right under the CV joints.
Pull the trans back out, and use your BFH to put the dents in. Red hot will make it easier.

not a baja, but a rail lol second frame second year of running, 1835 dual 40's 002 bus trans stock +2 trailing arms and not too far from going coilover on berrian frame :D
