I have been searching around a lot lately and I can't seem to find anyone that makes a Type 3 alternator conversion kit. They have all kinds of them for type 1 & 2. Does scat or empi make it? if not i was wondering who does make it and roughly how much it costs. Thanks in advance for any info

i know its a little off topic but how many amps is a normal alternator supposed to send? on a t3?

You mean generator? 30. I think.

Type 1 alternator fits nicely with minor trimming of the alternator body and a couple of shims riveted on the fan shroud.

you can buy type 1 alternators on ebay that go
Way up to 75-125 amps(ive seen one)
i used to have a link to a 125 amp one on ebay
MMmmmmmm.....

Whoa hey, watch out for some of those. There is a lot of really cheap chinese junk floating around. I'd sure be wary of one (rated) at a 125 amp. That's a ba-chit load of juice and may be of questionable quality.
I think mine is 55 amp. It is a rebuilt but the quality seemed to be pretty good. Got it from Kragen for 70 bucks.

Show some pictures of the fan belt pulley. I like what I see. will a regular t3 pulley fit with no modifications.

sharkskinman Tue Mar 16, 2010 6:46 pm

really i think the 75 amps would be more than enuff
to run HID lights a Banging Stereo and what not

Levi Harris Tue Mar 16, 2010 7:52 pm

Yeah, it's a stock type 3 pulley. It's a really easy mod, no need to cut tins or hack anything. There's an old thread on here somewhere about this...

Levi Harris Tue Mar 16, 2010 7:56 pm

Here it is!
Now then, with a little trimming of the bottom lip on the alternator there is no need to hack the tins.
There's been a little evolotion in this... Read it all.
