Yeah I reconized that hurst as well lol. I have to catch the show see what its about. I wonder thought with them showing retail on the stuff they dig up if its going to make people think twice before they sell there old junk.

AlteWagen Wed Jan 20, 2010 12:48 pm

fuc#ing flippers!!!

That is why I keep VW stuff as a hobby not a living. Once you make it a living its all about the cash, greed ruins it for me.

If I have a valuable part I would gladly give a deal to someone who is working on their ride and needs the part. I hate it when people give me a sob story on how they NEED the part for their only car and need to get to work then see them flipping it for profit. Its shit like that that makes old timers into trolls that dont want to sell anything.

X2... happened more than once to me... and they didn't even need to lie, I was giving it to them regardless :?

I could care less if someone flips something I had for sale.
I had a price, they agreed to pay, what do I care if they make a killing, throw it in the trash...or fix their ride!

I guess I do feel better if someone is in need of an odd part and I happen to have it and it really helps them out.

If someone begs and pleads to get their price because they NEED it and then they flip...that's a bit much.
These "American Pickers" didn't seem to take it that far.

I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I'm looking forward to the next episode. Thats what I was referring to... but on parts offered free to someone/anyone in need... bullshit "circumstances" given anyway... for sale by the "needy""at the next show/swap. Bought from me and flipped?... I could care less after I've been paid my price. Beg 'o flip on something offered free is rediculous. Oh yeah, I like the show as well.

jeremy57ride Wed Jan 20, 2010 2:49 pm

Yeah, thats one of those deals that makes you question everyone's integrity. (or lack there of!)
I had a guy low ball me on some parts at the swap and then there they were later~ right up the row with his things for sale...and then there they were at the next show...and the next...good for him!

I think you fellas are reading a bit much into a TV show ....Geeeze. I dealt with Mr. Wolfe and he was a stand up guy , I think the editing and such just made them appear a bit pushy thats all.

gerg Wed Jan 20, 2010 5:32 pm

Didn't read the whole thread, but that is brotherbob's old single cab and a Heil Machine hurst . . . I drove that thing to TX on my SC to deliver to Bob . . .

Putting it on Bob's SC . . .

he feels famous now :)

I posted this rack when it was made in a thread way back when.

He used my sc to get the dimensions.

Interesting show, love seeing the "treasures" that people have stashed away in the heartland. However, the show will make it harder for good deals to be had in the future. All the jackoffs that watched the "house flipper" shows on HGTV and decided to try it themselves with no previous experience proved that one for sure.

I did notice alot of the same tactics employed on the show that are discussed here re: scoring old busses; keep in touch with the owner, stop by and talk every month for years if necessary to break 'em down to sell, etc. Those are just the ways to make these types of deals happen I guess.

Pawn Stars is interesting, the bald guy cracks me up with his low ball offers, and the suckers take it! Unless they need crack$ pronto, once you know what the piece is worth, take that shit home and put it on ebay!

My sentiments exactly on the Pawn Stars comment, especially when the client is provided with an expert appraisal to go on. If he'd just exclude the client from the appraisal process, there'd be no need price negotiation. I think the guy is only still in business because he has his friends do appraisals for free, not something many people can do.

i dont have cable...or tv for that matter but my mother watched it and said she could imagine me being like the depiction of the characters.

i just bought a bus and i told the owner exactly what was right and wrong with it,i explained that he might get more than i would pay by putting it on ebay.....

i told him what my plans would be for it and that the only reason i was still standing there was because the bus was so original....he told me he understood that these buses "all fixed up" were worth big money at auction.....i explained that might be true, but the costs of a proper restoration would be greater than the "big money" one would get back.

i explained what i would do and they money it will cost not factoring time involved.......i also explained what it would be worth on a low after my work $15k and the uber high $30k.......

no smoke/mirrors,no shifty eyes,i dont do any of that shit,i actually just tell them the truth and it seems to work, funny how when you are genuine with folks they let their walls down...

i was actually hoping he wouldnt take my offer but he did, full well knowing what i had planned......to resell for "gasp" a profit!

still i had one local email me crying....damn,i was gonna buy that bus....its just so sad that you bought it to resell......i couldnt help but ask why he didnt buy it then.......then i had to wonder "well what would happen if someone else did get it?" my conclusion is/was that i was actually probably one of the best buyers for the bus,i will be cleaning it up and putting it back into circulation...............what would most do?

most will take it part way apart, lose pieces, likely the car will deteriorate further because of short funds, lack of experience, lack of an idea what kind of work and time it will take to make "right" and possibly even throw in the towel...or worse customize it,run it till something breaks then pass along the remains

my method will take a shitload of work, and a dainty pile of cash, but the bus will be better off for it and the new owner will be able to drive away

still there will be some dimwit who will say "oh,what a flipper" if only people could understand just how hard it can be to make money off of old cars/junk

+100. I've had that happen to me a couple times, which is probably why I seem like such a dick now when people want to buy something from me.
