The new episode with Jack White was awesome! He's been my favorite rocker for years and he's definitely a living rock god. It was cool to see him and the Picker guys all in one

Anyone watch Oddities on the SCI channel? Just the entertainment value of the customers alone is worth watching...

Isn't that the truth. They walk among us.

I've been watching since I got up this morning, I may not get anything done today - not that that is anything new.

The thing I like about them is they are much more real than most of the other shows. While yes there is some made for TV things, like they actually sell lots of different antique things, they are real. Though Ryan looks a lot better on TV than in real life, way too white. When the show aired the first time the circle I deal with all recognized them.

The down fall for them is they get reconized a lot more but for many of us dealers we get used to seeing stars so don't make a big deal about it. Evan was trying to hide herself the first Brimfield after the show aired. The last show they actually tried to do some filming, not sure what if anything will be aired as it was one of the wettest shows in a few years.

I imagine it would be a little weird for them as they were an already established business, they would run the risk of alienating the regular clientele by having the show itself label them as odd...

Actually it may help. The fun of dealing in the antique world is there is lots of odd balls myself included. My "company" uniform at shows is a tux with tails, top hat, and usually shorts walking a cat (see Dasbullihaus.com). I actually have customers that look for the hat. There is another toy dealer that wears a kilt.

The big show we do, Brimfield there is lots of odd things to see. People watching can be very fun. Some of the great to see if the ones into vintage clothes. And then there is the tall Norwegian lad who wears leather short shorts and a half shirt.... Oddness is fun

Oh and Edgar is my favorite customer on Oddities

Brimfield episode is tonight.....

Back on topic, I'm kind of surprised I haven't seen Mike Wolf's interview with Hot VW's mentioned here. This last month finished up the 3-part set, and obviously he's been familiar with TheSamba for quite awhile. Wonder what his user name might be...

I get a kick out of the show because of the number of junky places that they can find. Reminds me of some farms where I grew up (including my uncle's), except these places are usually even more packed, and inevitably yield some good stuff. Most of the farmers I know don't keep old signs (unless it's been cut up & painted to replace a panel on a tractor), and they don't have turn of the century bicycles kept out of the rain.

So when I see the show, I relive my time picking thru neighbors junk and going up in creaky shed attics. I wasn't really a 'picker', I was more of a 'looker'.

Just because they convinced Jimmy Page and The Edge to sit with him does not a rock god make him.

He is a good musician but not a rock god.

Sorry, you're right, it was mentioned (very briefly) a couple months ago. In fact, that's probably why I went out and looked at the last few issues of Hot VWs, since I remember knowing from someplace that the interview was there.

The complete discussion, from Dec. 1:

Just read it. Pretty cool! He was originally from Joliet, IL, only 5 minutes from me!

Don't really watch the show but watch the History Channel from time to time and kept seeing previews for the episode with Delorean and the stupid line about the Flux Capacitor, I actually catch that part of the episode late last week and yesterday (Sat) AM as I head out of town on a miserable cold, windy day here in Md I slow for a traffic light and what do I see parked on the street? A freaking DeLorean! I couldn't believe it. I can't recall the last time I actually saw one.

^^ Did the one you saw have a Flux Capacitor?

It appeared to have been removed as an anti theft measure.

There was a red panel on the last episode I saw a few days ago. I think it was last week's episode? They only show it for a few seconds. Probably for sale.
