I am in the process of restoring my 1960 mango green beetle...What i am needing is the necessary paint codes and possible pics of what interiors came with such a car. I have the seats and door panels, but the car never had any carpeting when purchased. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1960 beetles did not come with carpet on the floor only rubber mats. Carpet was only used on the heater channels, forward firewall and kick panels. I think the rear luggage tray also had some carpet as well.

The colour all depends on how its applied if you use a different setting on the spray gun the colour could appear totally different I used a TMI interior on my '61 and its almost 11 years old and has held up very well. Where in Ontario are you located?

TMI as well, has held up since 1995 (vinyl). I'm sure you can pay quite a bit more to get the last details exact.

When I restored my 1960 Beetle in 1995, the vinyl seat covers I ordered through Wolfsburg West were supplied by TMI. The fit and quality at the time was great, and they have worn well over the past 15 years. While rebuilding your seats, I highly recommend replacing what remains of the rubberized hair padding, even if it seems to be in decent condition. Again, those were ordered from Wolfsburg West, and have held up very nicely.
My one gripe about any of the replacement seat covers is the texture of the vinyl itself. I have yet to find anyone who is producing covers with the original style "pebble grain" finish rather than a smooth-grain finish.
1960's are a challenging year to restore--plenty of one-year-only parts! I have just begun a re-restoration of my 1960, feel free to ask any questions as they turn up, and if you have trouble finding spare bits, I'm happy to help. |

thanks guys! also concerned when I installed new spindles they seem to be quite stiff almost impossible to turn...I installed drop spindles and new link pin kits on a press. they still have grease fittings that I have not greased up yet....just thought they should still have some play in them...unless the brass bearing that holds the pins has to be worked in.
