Hello-

If you want the best, you have many options. A Formula Vee guy here at work was trying to convince me to buy some very nice, and infinitely adjustable, racing shocks. I think they cost 500 USD each. You can also figure out the required data (weight per wheel, spring rates, etc.), call Koni, and they'll build shocks just for your car.

My car is lowered only 1.5 inches so I installed Porsche 356 shocks in front and modified shocks with 356 like settings in back. The compression setting is soft enough that I have a comfortable ride, but the rebound setting is stiff enough that it feels nice and flat.

Paul,

I wish to also lower my 56 about 1 to 1 1/2 inches but all the dropped spindles I have found are only the 2 1/2. Do you know anyone that offers only 1 1/2 drop spindles?

Hello-

I've never seen dropped spindles other than the 2.5 in ones. I would imagine that you could find a fabricator to make you a set, but I'm not sure it would be worth the cost.

To drop my beam I welded in Berg adjusters and flipped the tie rods. I don't have any problems with bump steer unless I stiffen up my shocks/sway bar too much. Also, I avoided the added un-sprung mass that the dropped spindles add.

I've seen 2" dropped spindles from some vendors. But you don't get to be picky on amount of drop when you use spindles. My plan is a dropped spindle with a centered adjustable beam so I can make minor adjustments to ride height either up or down. The way I see it is you need adjustability to compensate when you change wheels or tires, if it rubs, or just to make it look right. Right now I am focusing on getting my ride quality back by adjusting the beam back up before I make any radical changes. Since I have an adjustable (4") beam I can see how it works with dropped spindles before I order a new custom beam. You can customize both tube length and the adjuster position. I suspect that I will end up with less than a 4" beam but it depends on everything else so I am taking an incremental approach.

Oh, PS. I forgot. Thread is about shocks... PO installed Bugpack shocks. They go from 11" to 15" center to center. Anyone know what the stock amount of center to center length is?

I used kybs in the rear and as for the fronts I used the lowered shocks through cb performance. This setup along with some meaty tires in the front and rear gave me the softest and best handling for my setup. [/img]
