Hi All, I just bought a 1971 Bus that has been sitting since 1997 in a
backyard. I have looked to see what it was and it looks like a
Kombi with seating for 9, But the spare tire is under the front seats
not in the back. Does anyone know what it would if not a Kombi?
Thanks,
Josh

Nice thats a non walkthrough. I love those. Does it have a full width middle seat? If not, thats really seating for 8. If so, man. Thats cool.

We really need pics man.

Yes it has full width middle seat. the body is in good shape but the inside
bad. No major rust. heres a pic. I just washed all the mold and dirt off.

sweet got the deluxe trim for the win!

do you even have the rear corner pieces for those?

congrats on your new bus, and good luck restoring it to it's former glory,
since your in the seattle area, check out wetwesties.org.

we got a good group of people out here so don't be afraid to ask if you need anything, again good luck!

That looks pretty cool. I have a 9-seater '72 myself. When you say that the inside is bad, do you mean the interior parts or the metal?

The paint doesn't look too bad. One thing though; it looks like the back half of the roof s a different color than the rest of the bus. Is that just bad lighting? With regards to the rest of the paint, you could probably bring back some shine by buffing and polishing it, like described here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=349881&highlight=buff

Ok I took some more pics. It has been repainted it was red with a white
top. All the trim is there but it is dinged in a few places. Going to start
striping it down soon.

Nice. Looks like a good project bus.
However get that transmission raised up and supported. When someone lets it hang like that there are various items that can and usually do get damaged.

Chazbot Fri Jan 29, 2010 12:51 pm

I like it!

And the trim is there also. Maybe you can salvage some of the engine, maybe not. That will be a fun project for you.

Best of luck with it and don't forget to post pictures....!

Nice bus! My dad has had a '74 9 passenger bus for many years and I've only seen two others in that time so I would assume it's pretty uncommon.

Definitely not a Kombi. As mentioned before, it's a 9-passenger Deluxe. The true "station wagon" of buses. Nice find :)!

edited for spelling...twice :P

Great score, another bay has been saved!

Nice find :D I'm envious, here in WNY you just don't see anything that clean that has sat.

I have the Westy version and don't see a lot of them here, most of them, mine included, have asked a premium because of that. But to be honest I really miss not having the convienience of a walk-thru .

Very nice. I'd clean it up and roll it. Very very cool. Super jealous of that middle seat. I want one in that color bad.
