This 59 vert was on Craigslist yesterday, and I picked it up. This was never in my plans, but you got to jump on it when it comes up. It is pretty much wasted. There will be a lot of metal work going into this one.
Here is a shot of the 65 Ghia I am finishing now for the wife and a shot of the 59.

I can't decide if I'm jealous or feel bad for you!
Just kidding....Judging how the other car looks this vert should be no problem for you! Would love to see the build up of the coupe though!
Great score!

I saw that Ghia on Craigslist and I thought...it looks like it at least has a nice steering wheel. That sure is some project. Good Luck!!
Are you sure it's not a 1958?? The steering wheel looked like a 58 and the raised area where the nose emblem attaches and the turn signal housings (at least the passenger side) look to be 1958.
Do you know the vin? |

I don't have the vin in front of me, but I remember it was 196xxx.
This vert is pretty bad. It may not be worth the amount I paid, but I am confident I can get this thing back to at least on par with the 65 I am doing now.
I will post up more pics of both latter tonight for those interested. |

Yep 1958...late June or early July...great score. :D
...probably a Wednesday morning, around 11.30am...Kurt gave it a final polish and Gustav drove onto the parking lot for collection. Don't ask me how I know...I just do. |

| Man, what a score. Even all beat up like that, I love the way ghias look. And Score on the year, you bought what you thought was a 59 only to find out its a 58, nice. |

Nice find. It looks rought, but car is worth saving.
Car is made in june 1958 (around the 13th of june)
I will add this one to the registry (www.kglowlightregistry.com). If you register yourself, I will put it under your name and than you can add pictures and text yourself

Here is the first day of tear down. Looks like I will be needing to pick up another ghia for sheetmetal.
The car sat under a tree for 30 years according to the owner previous to the guy I bought it from. It was in El Cerrito on some land he owned but did not live there. |

Have a word with Mike Gregory at House of Ghia he always has a stock of parts cars and panels. |

| Yikes! That there is some rusty Ghia! It is worth saving though, if you have some metal working skills and aren't afraid to weld. A parts car is a great idea, though the front heater chanels might be hard to find and make sure you get parts from a car as early as you can. There are a lot of minor differences between the years especially the engine bay metal. Mostly little things, but if you are going to restore a lowlight cabrio you might as well do it right. Get the car media blasted, see what you have to work with and go from there. Good luck and keep us posted. |
