If you sent me your mailing address [email protected] I would send you an updated disc as a way of thanking you for your service to the Thing Community. Also in hope that the files would open for you. The files are pdf. jpg and word files so they should all open easily.
K-mann, I owe you an apology. Doubting my own sanity as I often do, I searched through my old emails to find the back-and-forth email exchange I had about the trouble I was having opening the files. Turns out it was a Things Unlimited Data CD I was having problems with. I will order the RoMTOC Thing Data CD today!

I have a complete service manual in a binder with a seperate binder for the parts # manual. I got them thrown in with the purchase of my 74. I'm not to tech savy ,so if someone can tell me how to put them on the computer we could add it to the sticky. I'll also ask my brother in law, he makes copies for law firms and such(not a copy boy,his bussiness is making copies) maybe he could do it easier then me.

I already took care of the parts manual. If you want to, you can see if your copy has anything that my copy is missing. I know there are two versions of the drawings for section 16 for example, but my copy only has the drawing for one. Section 64 there is an alternator for some later model cars in another copy of the parts manual I have seen online (no parts numbers just drawings though).

I don't have K-mann's CD so I don't now if there is a complete parts number sheet inside.

That information can be found in this map:

It is the same as a those parts manual (drawing) book but after each chapter there is a complete parts number list with short description. Great stuff and in 3 languages (German, English and French). The book I have is from 69 but I inserted an update list from 1971 also.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the "whichmanuals" site in downloading a manual. I have been trying since last September to get the data for the application I downloaded from them. They supported via chat for a time then nothing. Cannot raise them at all now.

Just a quick necropost in case anyone reads this thread and looks for the RoMTOC CD -- it has moved to:

http://www.romtoc.com/romtoc-thing-data-cd.html

I'm sure the information is elsewhere in TheSamba, and Google can certainly find it; just thought I'd save someone some time sometime.

I bought a pdf version of the Thing Manual off Ebay a while back for a LOT less than what the Thing Shop wants for it's paper version. Nothing really too essential to have. Better to spend the money on a Bentley Type 1 manual.

The RoMTOC Thing Data CD is a compilation of decades of work by the Thing community. It is updated and better arranged on an on-going basis. It is still the best one stop shop for Thing/stock/custom/offroad/military out there. At a buyer's request i can include other VW data their CD to include all the German manuals, Iltis. Unimog and more. I have a huge catalog of VW manuals asn files aside from my main area of expertise "Herr VW Thang..."

I'll vouch for kubelmanns CD. It is top notch and well worth the "peanuts" he charges for it!
(Did I say everything I was supposed to Kmann, I forget :D :D :D )
Seriously, it is great. Everyone should have a copy!!!

There never was a things unlimited cd

These are the manuals I would recommend if you want hardcopies
Owners manual
Parts Manual
Idiot book

and how to rebuild your air cooled engine book by Wilson
I have parts manuals which include wiring diagrams and gas heater repair manual with troubleshooting and installation guides on website

The shop manual is 90% useless as most of the tools they recommend to use have now been replaced by a vice grip and a screwdriver.
However is it a very good reference for the other 10 %
