Got mine in the mail today, 17 days. Talk about a great Christmas present! And even better is I found out my square was part of the tourist program! I'll get a picture up when I get to a computer.

Does anyone know you can find the stats of your car, such as how many were produced etc? I have a 67 KG vert and I know it is not rare, but curious how many were produced.

Thanks

Kyle

Ordered mine on 12/13/10 and got it today, 1/5/11! I was really happy at the short time it took to get it.
My car's destination was Karlsruhe, Germany on 8 March, 1956.
Interesting... :D

Nope, the only way to find out what the engine number is/was is to supply it to the factory, and then they would let you know if it is/was correct or not. If you ask them, for legal reasons they wont tell you the number.

Applied for mine today, seems that my engine number is 1957 but chassis is 1958, confusingly. Hopefully this will clarify...

I got mine today. It took about 4 days to get to Florida from Germany. One for my '67 Bug and another for my '73 Bus. They came in a nice folder and they look great.

I have a question about my '67. It says that the destination for it was Reserve, USA. Does anyone know what that means?

That has come up a few times before in the Bus Forum and no one really knows.

It supposedly means that letter was "Reserved" for future delivery port destinations so basically it is unknown.

If you have any original history on the vehicle and where it was first sold, that may be informative.

magnus0328 Mon Jan 24, 2011 5:51 pm

Thats pretty cool. I don't have any info on the car at all.

I still have the email from Ms. Fendler from the museum. Ill email her and see if I get an answer.

So I got my letter and cert through and my car was born on 4 feb - birthday celebrations this Friday then! Perhaps I'll give her a nice oil change... But the letter advised 'cannot certify the originality of the engine number xxxxxxx because there is no entry in our files'. Not sure what this means but have asked the nice mr Wolfgang doerk to advise so will keep you all posted.

I'm sure Ms. Fendler & Wolfgang already gave you All the info they have. Go work on your cars instead of bugging the polite Germans!

Not sure what this means......

It means that the records for your engine are either damaged or missing and they can't help you any further.

Hey no need for the unfriendliness, I'm new to all this and just trying to find my way and figure out what's what. I sent a very polite email to Mr Doerk and I don't mean to bug anyone.

I got an email today from an employee at the museum. My initial email asked her to clarify what Reserve, USA meant. This was her email:

"Dear Mr --------,
The name "Reserve USA" means a Town or City in USA for military or so"

She said she will clarify this on Monday and let me know.

Does this sound correct?

Sounds reasonable, I'll be interested to know what else she says.

I sent my request for my 1967 panel walk through camper conversion last week. I am looking forward to seeing some history on my ol 67. It was only 13 years old when I bought it.

I got an email yesterday about this. This is what she wrote:

Dear Mr.--- ,

We thank you for your e-mail.
After new researches in our records and expert advise with our colleagues we mean your opinion may be also right. There are different towns with the name but better is perpaps yours, because buying a car in the USA is a little bit different than Germany/Europe. The US customer perfer the car at the dealer (instead to order a car), a store of cars in the USA would be mean with "Reserve USA".

If you have further questions you're welcome.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen aus dem AutoMuseum
i.A. Gerolf ---

Basically, they are unable to confirm if "Reserve, USA" meant that the car was stored somewhere in the USA until it was needed -OR- if it meant that the car was shipped to a Military reserve base in the USA.

If it were stored in the US somewhere, where would it be kept? Did VW have a place to store the cars here until needed?

I filled out the online form listed on this thread on the 24th; charge came through on the 25th and I had the certificate in the mail yesterday.

WAY faster than I expected but it has a few things that are incorrect for a 65.
