| glad to help. the single turd is really a rusty pile, but so handy to have around. if all the repair parts surface some day, i might restore it. but, in the meantime, i will drive it till it snaps in half :D |

Haha i hear you on that, mine is a camper which also comes in handy. Well now i wait for spring to fix this little setback. In the meantime i think i'm just going to make some reinforcement plates for kicks. |

| Hey just curious if anybody reproduces this section of the frame? Or will it have to all be fab work? |

| fab work. although... you might ask Gerson, but your damage doesnt need much metal. and since it has to the trimmed to fit anyway, you might as well just fit some 13ga. in there. |

That piece shouldn't be too hard to fabricate. Its just plate. Gerson makes a piece for around that area for a Split bus, which might work, or with minor tweaking.
I'd be looking at just how far the rust extends under that "gusset" that goes around the torsion tube. Looking at your first picture, it looks like it is behind it. They are just welded in in a few places it seems. It might be worth your while to grind off those welds and remove the gusset and see what all is behind there. Or not. |

| I was just curious. The guy who is "probably" do it for me does some good fab work, i just wanted to see if i could make his job a tad bit easier for him. I'm going to leave to poking to him, that way i don't get discouraged  |

I just came across this. This guy cut the torsion tube out and replaced it with another one so he could fit a Porsche engine into his Doublecab. Here's a link to the whole thread. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=396538
The way he patched it up after he got the new torsion tube up into place should work for fixing the area that rusts out on our busses.

| One of the biggest reasons for rust in that area of the torsion beam... there are no "drain holes" for water or moisture to escape or dry-up and I will also include the bottom rounded ends of the front beam and also the metal surrounding the tube holding the center-pin bushings..drain holes also give the opportunity to oil spray the inside of those concealed areas as mentioned above... |
