They can and do pass through the engine workings most times without doing any harm so if your a few hundred miles beyond that it's likely passed like a kidney stone....
But not having one in place will give you a MAJOR hesitation.
Too much confusion on 30 pict 3 and 31 pict 3 going on in this thread. (apologies for my part I was trying to point out differences not similarities)
I would not run an electromagnetic jet in that spot (RH side) on a
31 pict3 it was not designed to have one there.
Ok, let's clear this up! lol
1. The carb that originally came on the engine was 30PICT3 and was falling apart, also lost that accel jet during the drive home from Portland to Vancouver(Canada)
2. I replaced it with completely different carb which happens to be 31PICT3. This "new" carb DOES have the accel. jet and is hearsay rebuilt. Looked a lot prettier the the original anyway.
3. That new 31PICT3 carb would not idle warm and seemed to have had a missing piece in the hole pointed by the arrow in the picture.
4. Today, I used the idle jet off of the original carb and plugged that hole(lol). Adjusted the idle a bit(about 3/4 turn) and now the bus idles cold or warm.
And, I will send you a PM. :)
EDIT:PM sent. |

Gotcha... I was just addressing the fact that when a brass accel shooter tube does fall out it can pass through without destroying the engine. I have had it happen a couple times on my personal cars and also have many others who have had that happen as well. ( blowing down the road, and odd miss or hiccup and then major hesitation from take off after that... darn things can blow right on through the cyl and out exhaust because they are brass and squish unlike a steel part. )
I have also seen pictures of when the tube has been stuck in an intake valve so sure, that can happen too... |

Yep, that's pretty much how it was. However something else was up with the old carb too, when I left Corvallis(OR), it had a slight hesitation off idle, just somtimes. Then the flat progressively got bigger until, near US/CA border, it would pretty much run only near and at wide open throttle. I don't know when the little jet decided to take its own life, but it was along there somewhere.
Now with the new carb, it idles as off today but I will see how it actually runs. I can tell that it will have a little sputter off the line sometime but I reckon a tuneup and some tinkering is in order. I can also hear a slight miss at the idle. The bus was tuned up before I picked it up though and ran pretty nice for first little while. |

You need to re adjust the valves and check the plugs.... when the brass shooter tube passes like a kidney stone it will be painful and leave some scaring   Usually in the form of a bad plug/closed up smashed electrode. That alone could be your miss. |

Definitely, I have heard that from few people about a banged up spark plug. |
