Not really.. the hole is still there.
BTW... that's what happens when the inside comes apart.

Nothing wrong here, it's just a big oil breather for better oil cooling.
Always in between #1 & 3, oil starvation in the front, pump in the back, pressure lower in the front, tired engine.
I see that on other car maker. Nothing to do with VW only.
Sold a used engine yesterday to a fellow, a nice 2.1L. Guy bought the van last Sept. Plan his first trip for the holidays, leave Montreal, 200 miles before Florida engine start knocking, drive 20 more miles, engine explode (same hole), find cheap motel, wait 4 days for his friend to come with pick-up truck and trailer, drive back home 2.5 days. 8 days of nothing, just driving and waiting, vacation ruined. Now selling the van. A classic.

is there no way to help an old engine, since they have the engine out? Like most of the work of changing the oil pump is getting past all the accessories and mounting bar.
Wouldn't a nice fresh pump and proper clearance on the cover give enough boost? Unless it is already cooked and ready to grenade, I suppose? |
