| throw up a couple of pics of the engine. It likely came with a 1700 with dual carbs. But who knows what may have been swapped in over the almost 40 years that its been kicking around. |

welcome
you want dual carbs like these: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=833634
solex 32/34PDSIT3
or some aftermarket single barrel duals like Weber ICTs, Solex Kadrons or the like.
you will never like your bus if you put a single center mount carb on it.
no need to YELL we can hear you fine  |

| There is no place that makes exact replacements. You can get after market kits but there quality is greatly debated here on the forums. You best bet is to rebuild and fix your stock carbs. There are many people here who will help you along the way as you work on them. |

Cheapest generally means they are jetted to whatever the Weber factory put in them. This might not work correctly with your engine combo. To correct this you'll need to have someone who knows what they are doing rejet them. So in the long run your "CHEAPEST" will be more expensice. |

I totally agree with this. I at one time bought a set of 34 ict webers for my 1700 in my bus. They were jetted so poorly I could not even run air filters. I had a hard time finding jets for the carbs and what I did find was expensive. I finally gave up and put the time into rebuilding and properly adjusting my stock carbs. The bus runs like a dream now.
Remember German Engineers at VW knew what they were doing when they designed these engines. If you put the time into your engine to make it run how they wanted it to run, you will not be let down. |

Take a look at this ad:

This would be a good start to getting a stock carburetor set up on your bus. Take a look in the classifieds for Bus Carburetors. There a plenty there. |

| My 73 sat for ten years and when I got it no-mater how I tried , Rebuild the carbs myself cleaned them out tuned them I could not stop the river of fuel from pouring down the throats of the stock carbs. I went to a local show and in the swap area I was able to purchase a set of the stock carbs and clean them and install them . this turned out to be the best 40.00 dollars I have spent ,the Bus ran perfect after with only min adjustments . Read here on the Samba and get to know as much as you can about the problem areas like the shaft at the base of the carbs some time,s need to be rebushed and cause air leakage. Now I have two sets of carbs and the second set I can send away to get rebuilt. The person who rebuilds them is here on the samba do a search . Hope this info adds to the other's and gives you a way to solve your problem. |
