I have a '79 type 2 Westy that has undergone an engine swap and I need new heat exchangers. The serial # on the fan shroud is GE007604 which indicates that I have the correct 2.0 engine for a 78/79. Oddly, the heat exchangers currently on the bus (what's left of them...) do not look like those pictured for a '79; they are not as large and flat.
For those of you who are familiar with engine numbers, can you please point me in the right direction in determining the correct exchangers for this engine?
Thanks,
Bob |

The number on the fan shroud means nothing, the number on the case between the shroud and breather tower is more helpful but even then the heads could have been swapped.
Do these HE's have one or two ports on each side where they enter the muffler? Can you post a pic of the HE's and where the pipes meet the head? |

I just picked up a 72 today that has a late bay engine. This is my first T4 motored vehicle ever. Does anyone have a picture of where the serial number might be? I'm a 15 year T1 motor guy and I really don't know much about this setup. Thank you for your help! Here is a picture of the motor.. sorry for the crappy quality.
I'll be going through it with a fine tooth comb before driving it... i.e. new fuel lines, etc so no worries. I just need to gain some more knowledge. I'm really excited about having a fuel injected motor and a six rib transmission in a 72. It sure makes for one cool bus! |

| The numbers are dead center behind the fan shroud on the case right behind the bar for the flaps. Depending how oily or dirty it is you may need to clean the area with a wire brush. |

Awesome, thank you so much! I found the number and it looks to be a 79 motor and trans. |
