Hello Group,
I recently scored big. I found an almost pristine (for a 42 year old part) sink/ice box in Los Angeles and purchased it for my '68 Bay. It came out of a '68 so it fits perfectly into my dream world of perfection. I like things stock and I like my parts to be year-correct.
My question is this: Could it be possible that the stainless sink part did not come with a drain for these early Bay Westfalia sink/ice box units? I have looked at hundreds of pictures online and in books and cannot seem to find a photo showing the sink at the right angle so as to see if there's a drain hole or not. The fella I bought the unit off of insisted that the sink is original and did not come with a drain hole. Also, the sink has 4 slightly raised areas (one on each of its four sides) where one can slip their fingers under to pull the sink up and out of its position (for pouring water off?) and in a photo of a gorgous, complete stock '68 I saw online, I noticed the sink looks exactly the same with these raised edges. I emailed the owner of this camper to see if his sink has a drain hole or not but I haven't heard back and the curiosity is killing me. Seems odd to have a sink without a drain hole, but then again, some earlier sink/ice box units from the early split buses used a tub or a bowl (from what I can decipher from photos), so maybe a drainless sink is a possibility in the earliest of the bays. Please advise, oh well-informed bunch....please advise...... |

| The stainless pull out bowl doesnt have a drain, it relies on manually being removed and poured away. It is correct, but for a 69. My 68 (built in late 67) has a fibreglass sink top/bowl with drain. Im not sure exactly when they changed so yours may be correct depending on build date. |
