Hello Brian - I see this is your first post here, welcome to the forums!
I do have a couple of points - first of all, we appreciate your contribution - however keep in mind that this is a pretty old thread, from March.
The other points, I agree, the 009 is well known to be an unsuitable distributor for many applications. For many years it was easily the cheapest way to get your car going when an expensive stock distributor failed. So when they failed, the standard advice became "Get an 009" - and it didn't help that John Muir in the Idiot Book talked up the 009 like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. It wasn't!
However, over the last few years, whenever someone has acceleration hesitation issues, the standard advice has become "Get an SVDA" - which is not always right either. The SVDA needs a certain vacuum signature to work right, and only 34PICT carbs do this (well, the 30PICT2 and 30PICT3s specifically installed on AutoStick engines were SVDA as well, but those are uncommon to find - I'd like to see one up close but haven't come across one in years)
Also, if you use an SVDA with a 34PICT carb that was set up for DVDA you have to reduce the size of the hole drilled in the throttle butterfly plate because it won't idle properly at the advanced timing point otherwise.
And for the vast majority of 30 series carbs, a stock vacuum-only distributor is the best match. (unless you have a carb with modifications to the vacuum circuit)
I wrote a long detailed article a few years ago about the internal vacuum plumbing in the stock 28-34 series PICT carbs, you might want to check it out:

I did read this after I posted my new car and I have the same hesitation/wont go syndrome. im not sure of the set up on my engine yet other than it has upgraded from a single port carb. to a dual, a large cam and the displacement was upped from 1300 to 1600 but it idles ok and loves running at a higher rpm. when you start off from a stoplight it hesitates for a few seconds then takes off really quickly. going down the road at "lower and mid" rpms it wont speed up (basically struggles or hesitates) til you give more than half throttle then it takes off. I question the jets being too large and flooding the engine at low rpm (and slightly still do question it) but I am now wondering if the distributor is advanced too far or if something else is going on.
oh here's a quick pic of the engine, if you need a better shot Ill get one
