Hello my name is Ian i am Maltese ive just boght my first Split screen.
In malta splits are very rare and after 2 years i convinced the owner to sell it to me.. This van is a kombi it came with og safaris and pair of pop outs on the rear...
The van was in really good hands it`s in a good condition and all rust was repaired by time by it`s previous owner. The post owner told me that it had og safaris that the van had since 55 and he had removed them as usually because of leaks and rust... he decided they should go off and fixed on a non opening wind screen to prevent leaks and rust and kept the safaris stored.
He gave me the safaris and i am interested in restoring them as it would be much cheaper than buying a new set and the best thing is that they are og 8) I started by trying to seperate the frames cleand the crews area but the srews are totally stuck ive tried multiple types of solvent and left it for days but no effecet i need your help guys have you ever restored a pair of safaris??
I was thinking about drilling out the screws and when i have seperated the frames cleaned the rust and sealed the glass with the frames i will rivet them what do you think any solution?? can i use sealer to seal the glass with the frames like modern cars use??
thanks alot Ian |

Congratulations on that very cool early Bus! Ignore Keysar link...
Keep trying to loosen those screws, drilling often makes a bigger mess of things, especially on original rare safari windshield frames! Good luck and congratulations! In Malta can you legally go back to the original semaphore turnsignals or more stock "bullet-style" turnsignals and get rid of those aftermarket turnsignals?

| Yes very nice bus. Why is the exhaust exit on the right? Is that something legal for right hand drive in Malta? Talk about the trailer hitch. |

IMHO Americans can ride other Americans about calling their buses vans but as for the rest of the world we should really cut them some slack.
Did you know that a original Kombi would not have a two color paint scheme? |

| Sweet bus Ian. Looking at your photos, I'm not sure I would separate your safari frames. You may do more damage than good just trying to remove those screws. They may just need a little fine steel wool on the rusty spots. 00 steel wool works wonders on chrome too. Also, I would drive it for a few months first before I started taking stuff apart. That way, you have those good times to look back on if for some reason you get delayed or loose interest. Again, sweet bus and congrats. Welcome to the family. |

the extra switches came wth the bus... they consist to switschon and off the raidio..to switchon and off the reverse light to vairy the speed of the wiper motor its the post owner modification which i really like more switches are for the horn to check the fuel reader because its still 6v and the van is 12 v so you can switch it on to check fuel and then switch it off to prevent burning it :D the guages are an amp meter and the 6 v fuel guage.. i like all the switches... the steering wheel was given to me with loads of parts the owner of the bus geve me its off a bd that i really like but i still have the og one thanks alot
