best of luck with your endevor and keep posting updates, what say you. It looks like it already has the correct fuel pump.

Super cool find and great story. This is my favorite old Volks story of the year so far.

nice find

it looks like you also have a 60-61 1500 emblem (the 1 at the top obviously)in the extra parts that came with it. its worth about $100 to a notchback guy.

Looks like a regular ol type 1 hood emblem.

I thought I did well, I found a '52 split from a young kid who nothing about it other than his dad had built(not stuck which kinda hurts but hey it's still a real split) it back an old bug back in the 90's to give to him. I'm in the process of trying to gather up the og parts missing, which seems to be the hardest part for me! Good luck with it! Something about a split is just different than owning any other vw. I've had single/double cab and deluxe 21 window buses, ovals and ragtops yet sold them all after time, yet my split, well I'm pretty young so hopefully will have to wait a while for my estate sale to get my split

My Dad is trailering my split out here to western nebraska from his place 670 miles from here on the Iowa/Illinois/Missori border next weekend. Its awesome having your oldman so supportive of your addiction.

I have a NOS vw wiring harness to install and clean the tank out before i try starting the car. again

It turns over with the key (starter button since its a split) but has no fire.

Anyone wanna work on a split for the fun of it in thew weeks to come? Im a ra tard when it comes to wiring..

You name the beverage! Barbeque?

If i lived closer id come help you out. Id say run the harness thats in there. Unless its super hacked. Im the master of reviving old harnesses. :)
Thats all ive ever run. If theres any wire with an issue, i just fix that one. Theres so few anyways. Id stash that beautiful NOS one just in case you restore the car someday, or another early car. You will have a wiring harness already.

Any updates on this bug ?

I am now the current owner of this car. It has taken a back seat to my other 2 projects on the go as I want to restore this car correctly. I now have 4 16" wheels for it, plus the one that is on it. I also picked up some pretty sweet OG tail lights. I have spoken to BBT and Kafer Nostalgie about the car, and specifically what I should look for OG and what is acceptable reproduction to put on the car. Looks like bumpers and trim will be reproduction, as will running boards and mats. I'll get an interior from WCC when the time comes.
I have a question on the sunroof cover- I would like to go with canvas due to the appearance and durability but something tells me the vinyl would be better for originality. Opinions?
Also, if anyone car spot other things that are not correct to the car and if you can point me in the right direction of where to get the correct part please do.

Splits came stock with an material that had an canvas "like" skin and a rubber/vinyl layer below the canvas.
So canvas would be fine for your split.
The vinyl sunroofs seen on splits are later 50s replacements wich where produced by VW when the ovals had vinyl roofs also.
