I'm looking to narrow the beam on my '69 bug with 2 1/2" dropped spindles. It's got stock size wheels that I believe are 5 1/2" wide. I'm planning on dropping the rear one notch with new, and hopefully stiffer springs.

Question#1: What's a good tire size for a wide footprint w/o compromising too much tire height?

Question #2: How much should I be thinking about narrowing the beam?

I'm really looking for the best handling set up that I can achieve for tight highway-speed driving while battling the stiff winds here in the panhandle of Texas.
