Figured I should start a build thread for my newly acquired 1966 Beetle..
Found this on Craigslist for cheap, and just couldn't pass it up!
She put up a fight leaving the PO's house. A wheel cylinder was locked up, but thats nothing a little persuasion with a screwdriver cant fix.
The body is surprisingly straight, the pans have been recently replaced, and the only major rust is the passenger heater channels.
It's had a respray somewhere along its life. But it seems to be matched somewhat decently.
Notice the terrible aftermarket window seals. Will be replaced.
The interior looks to be recently replaced. Perhaps not, but it looks very nice, nevertheless.
Besides the door panels, of course..
Meeting its roommate.. :P
It came with a motor (in pieces), also. They guy said it's a 1600 Single port, but we arent sure..
Here's a video of it running.
I probably wont use this engine. We have a 1600 DP that we may put in.
cue the BugSelecta concept shot!
Found the color code sticker. Neat.
Plans are:
-just get it safe and sound
-keep it stock height...I really need a stock beetle to drive.
-new window seals all around.
-new wheel cylinders, pads, etc.
-various engine parts (yet to be determined)
-fix the heater channel
-misc. parts.
I'm not putting a goal date on this thing, because well, most people don't meet them. But I think it's safe to say it will be done before summer. |

I saw a coca cola bug at the Pomona Swap Meet last month. They had a case of bottles on the rear rack.
I think it's a pretty fun concept. I'd like to see an Orange Bang! bug or bus. |

Bus would be better, then you could run the vanity plate: BANG |

Coke is played out?
Yeah, how many Coca-Cola Beetles have you seen in person...
And I am just painting that decal on there, not the whole car...but if Coke wants to throw in some cash, I'm all for it!
Painting anything is the last thing on my mind as of now. I just want to get the thing rolling safely and smoothly, before anything. Looks like its going to be a 'every saturday' project. |

| Nice score! There was a car in B.C. that had the coke thing going. I hear you on the stock volkswagen thing. Keep it stock! I am probably raising my 63. I love the way it looks, it just drives like ass. I also like to offroad. |

Thanks!
Do you have any pics of that car? I would love to see them. :)
Yeah, man..I love my slammed 63, but sometimes, I just want to drive simple and not have to watch for pinecones in the road to bottom out on. Plus, it handles terribly in certain weather, leaving me immobile. Not good. |

Got the engine in tonight. It needs some carb work. Maybe just a little cleaning will do the trick.
Also threw in a battery, and the wiring seems to be alright. Lights, wipers, horn, etc. all worked.
Tomorrow, I will be focusing on the brakes.. |

Today: Worked on misc. things and started work on brakes. Gonna have to start buying parts.
Heres the list I made.
Transmission boots
4 wheel cylinders
1 master cylinder
Brake shoes
Window seals
Transmission mounts
Bowden tube
Engine seal
Fuel filters
German braided hose
Brake fluid
Headlight bucket springs
Tank seal
The tank was actually very clean. I think it is a aftermarket tank.

| Are you going to clean/buff/wax it? |

| Yup. I plan on doing that when it's mobile. A car wash is just down the road, so when it is able to make it there and back, I will wash it/buff it. Think of it as a personal goal. |

I will see if I can dig any pictures up and post them.
Snow is my biggest issue with my rear end right now. It is going back to stock I think.
Nice progress! It looks like it will be drivable shortly :) |

I love the concept pic! I'm gonna keep an eye on your thread! :D
BTW, I'm a graphic designer, I have a Coke logo vector graphic that can be enlarged and still have perfect resolution that would be great to use as a stencil or outline for the Coke logo! |
